IN Purr-suit of Flavours…..Tummy Warmers

Easy Blog and Canadian Cats have decided the theme for November is Tummy Warmers.  You know, those foods that keep you warm during the cold weather that’s decided to live by you for the next 6 months. We thought a soup would do the trick.  Bovine grains!  No, no, Tyebe.

This soup is Beef Barley. It sticks to your ribs and is warming.

I would never have guessed!

Doesn’t this look good. It’s a picture from Mr. Goggle. Obviously, Mrs. Goggle makes dang good beef barley soup.

INGREDIENTS

1/2 to 1 pound stewing beef
oil for sauteing beef
flour
2 bay leaves,
1 can consomee and 1 can of water
1 large can of tomatoes with juice
1/2 cup chopped carrots
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup of barley…pearl or pot
pinch of salt and pepper
rosemary and thyme…..to taste about 2 teaspoons.
1 onion
Think that’s it.

Now, you want to cut the stewing beef in bite sized strips. Then roll the strips in flour on a piece of waxed paper. Use oil or butter to saute the strips of stewing beef in a frying pan. Remove from heat and put into the crock pot. Also put in your onion, carrot, celery and peppers. Add your consomme, water and tomatoes plus the barley. Let the crock pot cook on low for 5 or 6 hours. The flavours will slowly mingle with each other creating a lively pot of deliciousness. About 15 minutes before finishing the soup, add the thyme and rosemary and the salt, pepper.

This is our photo;

The major difference between the two photos is you can see what ingredients went into the picture of the soup. Our soup, though delicious has a darker base. Perhaps we threw in some Worchestire Sauce. This is our Tummy Warmer and its a tummy warmer for peace.

I shied away from making Beef Barley soup cause it always tasted better at a restaurant than homemade until…….I discovered the secret to beef barley soup was adding chopped tomatoes to it.  Now, I make it whenever I want it.

We are looking forward to seeing your “Tummy Warmers.”

BLOG HOP is at bottom of page

The badge from Timmy and family is important as I go in for Cataract Surgery on Thursday.  I know, that surgery is easy peasy….well my foot was supposed to be relatively easy too but I have yet to walk without pain ever since.  So to say I’m rather dubious about surgery is putting it mildly.

Today is blog for Peace Day.

Peace….what a concept!  Will there ever be peace even in one country or will we tear each other down and apart because our beliefs are different than our neighbours?

I have to believe that one day people will see that their ideas are only one of many different ideas and there is room for everyone’s belief.   Our beliefs make us who we are and the world is so much richer with many cultures adding to our knowledge from their unique perspective..
