A Side trip To An Amazing Town

KALI……ORANGE                                                                               Mom and dad were up early to catch the train headed north.  They caught the bus to King’s Cross Station.

We thank Mr. Goggle for the use of this image.Aha….I smell a challenge!  Looks like a long walk to get insideYou can do it mom.

The inside seemed much more like spaces mom and dad were used to as the waiting rooms were huge.  St Pancras was bigger but the areas tended to be divided up more…  just sayin’.

Hey, this is where they filmed the scene as Harry Potter goes through the pillar at Platform 9  3/4 to catch the Hogwarts Express.

For those of you not familiar with Harry Potter please click on his name and you’ll get a brief history of him.

Woo hoo, mom had to try this one.

Looks like it didn’t work…take another run at the pillar mom. MOL

The train arrived at just the right time.  It is a shiny one.  We like shiny things.

They each had a, “Ticket to ride.” MOL

Arriving 3 hours later at Norgate.  A lovely town with hardly a car on the roads…they sure weren’t in London anymore.  Who offered them a ride but Bionic Basil’s PA and dad.  Cathrine and Josh took us to view a beautiful old church called Southwell Minister. Bionic Basil’s post of  Shoko and my meeting was reblogged on The Canadian Cats.

Cathrine and mom posing for pictures.  Josh is in the background.

We all headed over to see Basil and the Heathen Horde.  Well, Basil was waiting for us to come through the door.                                                                    I can just hear Basil saying, “What took you so long to get here?” MOL

Here is more of the horde.   They were very interested in what mom and dad were doing here.

Mom will always thank Cathrine and Josh for the Yorkshire Gold tea they found for mom.

Before they knew it, the time came for mom and dad to get back on the train.

One last look at Basil’s backyard where he and the horde play their war games.

Mom and dad were off  to London on the train.

They had one place to go in the evening and it was to the theatre to see The Mousetrap.  No mice were injured in the play.  This play has been running since the 1950’s.  They changed theatre’s in the 70’s, moving to St. Martin’s Theatre.  The cast has changed but the play keeps going.  Mom and dad were mesmerized by the actors and thoroughly enjoyed the play.                                                                      This was mom and dad’s last night in London.  Tomorrow they fly to Vancouver, British Columbia for another fun visit.

Have a fun Caturday

Introducing Mrs. Odboddy’s Next Adventure

SHOKO…..BLACK
KALI…..ORANGE

Hey Kali has mom finished reading this story of Pioneer life in the Rockies yet?  I don’t think so Shoko.  She must be pretty close though.  Do you like it?  Naw!  They certainly were mean to animals way back in the 1800’s.  I don’t think they thought of animals as having a family and loving their children and spouse.  It was wham, bam….,”We can get $15 for this pelt.” It makes my fur bristle.”                                                                       aakalishoktalkI heard from Ling-Ling the other day and Elaine Faber has written another book involving that kooky lady, Mrs. Odboddy.  You mean the , shall we say, the character type lady with chickens in her house? MOL  Ya that’s her!  She’s a lot of fun.  Mom could take some lessons from her and start looking for spies….wouldn’t that be fun?  I don’t think so Shoks…..mom’s not that dingy…yet.  Besides who’d feed us while mom is busy chasing spies and foiling plots against the government?  Never thought of that Kali.  Guess you’ve got a great point.  She needs to change the kit lit and wash my bedding and clean up when we eat too much grass and barf on HER bedding.

So what’s this story called Shoko?  It’s called  Mrs. Odboddy Undercover Courier.                                                                        mrs_odboddy_frontsmDid Ling-Ling mention what it was about Shoko?  Ling-Ling sure is a sweetheart and so pretty too.  Cut it out Shoko…she looks just like you, a well cared for Seal Point Siamese cat.  Get on with the story sisteh!  Ling-Ling gave me a segment of the story so peeps could get some idea what it is about.

It’s 1943 and Agnes and Katherine are preparing to accompany Mrs. Roosevelt on her Pacific Island tour. Agnes carries a package from Colonel Farthingworth to President Roosevelt in Washington, D.C. Convinced the package contains secret war documents, Agnes expects Nazi spies to try and derail her mission, but she is determined to protect the package and put it into the President’s hand, whatever the cost.

Before leaving town, however, she has to find a place for those gol-darned four bantam roosters–- Myrtle, Sofia, Mrs. Whistlemeyer and Mildred!

Agnes and Katherine travel by train to Washington, D.C. Along the way, she meets Irving, whose wife mysteriously disappears from the train; Nanny, the unfeeling caregiver to little Madeline; two black soldiers bound for the Tuskegee airbase to train as pilots, and Charles, the WWII veteran with PTSD who lends Agnes an unexpected helping hand when things go exceedingly wrong. Who should Agnes trust? Who is the Nazi spy? Is there even a Nazi spy or is it all in Agnes’s imagination?

In a final near deadly showdown In Washington, D.C., Agnes faces a formidable challenge and is forced to accept the possibility that she isn’t the hometown warrior she always thought she was.

Can Agnes overcome multiple obstacles, deliver the package to the President and still meet Mrs. Roosevelt’s plane before she leaves for the Pacific Islands? If you’ve read Mrs. Odboddy Hometown Patriot, you’ll know that she will do everything in her power as the scourge of the underworld she thinks she should be.

Ohh…the book sounds exciting Shoko!  Can mom get it for her Kindle?  Fur sure Kali.  The book came out last Thursday in paperback and e-book.

Ling-Ling said Elaine wants to know if you enjoyed Mrs. Odboddy Hometown Patriot? Would you like to see more of her adventures? So let us know my friends.

The Road To Barkerville

Last week mom and dad decided to take all our flat visitors and the pet rocks to Barkerville.  You’re wondering what this Barkerville town is?  Well, in 1862 Billy Barker discovered gold on Williams Creek and triggered a stampede of thousands to the Cariboo.  Over the next eight years Barkerville thrived.  It was the biggest town north of San Francisco.  When the gold faded away so did the town.  Barkerville is now a thriving tourist destination.

So we all piled in the car. King Meiko, Pete, Timmy, Buddy Budd, Einstein , me (Foko) and the pet rocks…Bashful and Chip.  Oh right….mom and dad too. MOL  We travelled like 87,000 miles.  OK it was more like 170 miles.  We didn’t waste any time but it was a looooong trip.

DSCN4027EEEk……avalanches!….the flats were scared.   Not to worry,  there’s no snow guys.

The road next to this tranquil stream was called the Cariboo Wagon Road before it was smoothed out and widened.  It was also referred to as the eighth wonder of the world.

Mom was attempting to show the devastation  the Pine Beetle has done to all the mature pine trees.  All the mature pine trees are dead and are just sticks now.  For some reason, the young and tender pine trees have been left alone.  One perk to this mess is the wood left by the pine beetle….it is beautifully coloured.

Barkerville is just up ahead….ignore the sign distance.

Next post we will enter the town of Barkerville.
