April is our turn to host the Shopping Around The World for Piglove. Simply put The Canadian Cat’s URL in your post with your favourite seafood dish. Piglove’s URL would be nice to include too.
Hey Kali how’s the ole gal doing? She’s OK….she’s watching and talking to the TV. The talking to the TV tells me she’s getting better. What happened anyway Shoko…do you know? Well, listening to dad and mom yak about her knee, it seems when they went to Omaha Beach after meeting up with Phenny and his mom and dad, mom fell down. Really!! Good ole mom, when in doubt, have a bath….sorry, that’s for us not mom. For mom it would be….MAKE A TURKEY OF YOURSELF!
This picture was taken moments before mom stood up, heard a crack and fell on her face. Da Phenny knew it was coming and wanted to get out of there fast so is dragging his mom behind him. MOL.
When they got to London they caught a virus….both of them. This knocked them so low that they could barely be seen on our cat radar, but I get ahead of myself as all of the residents at the house in Normandy were involved in fixing our recipe of the month for Shopping Around The World.
We peek in at the activities In the house in Normandy that day.
Seems mom was the bossy dudette for our recipe of Fish Cakes made with salmon. She says supervisor, we say bossy.
1 tin Sockeye Salmon….150 grams $5.25 in Canadian Dollars
1 onion…. 1.29 euro a pound , $ 1.38
8 small potatoes……very small…1.99 for a kilo, $$ 2.13 euro
some butter….in cupboard
A true international dinner.
1/ Dice onion but not too small. Throw a teaspoon of butter in frying pan to brown onion. Put onion in frying pan and cook at medium-high…stirring frequently or your onion will be black as my face. MOL
2/ While the onion is browning, cut up the potatoes and boil them in a pot.
The potatoes are boiling and the onion is sautéing as demonstrated by our model Broomhilda Brush, a charming woman.
With your other hand chunk up the sockeye salmon after you have removed the juice and given it to the pet at your elbow. As you see, aforementioned pet is helping Broomhilda get the salmon juice out of the can and telling us to flake off, it’s his juice.
3/ The potatoes are done so smash them like this foreign resident of the house.
5/ Add salt and pepper to taste and about 1 tablespoon breadcrumbs.
6/ Combine smashed potatoes, browned onions. salt, pepper, breadcrumbs and of course the salmon in bowl. Mix with hands. It tastes better this way.
7/ Make patties with your hands. Put 2 tablespoons butter in frying pan and turn the temperature to high. Watch constantly. Don’t forget to place the patties in pan. After about 5 minutes turn the cakes over and do the same on the other side. You want to brown them on either side….not burn them. DONE! These are some scrumptious looking fish cakes. Mmmm…perhaps some more potatoes would be wise next time.
A wonderful meal that we all had part in making. What? Mr. Brush didn’t do anything? Oh yes he did! Mr. Brush appears to have eaten a little more than the chair could hack. The chair broke but Phenny was there to the rescue, moving so fast he’s a blur.
Thank you for joining us for April’s Seafood Recipe. From all of us: Mr. and Mrs. Brush, dad, mom and Da Phenny we bid you a fun and happy day.
It is also Sunday Selfie Day with The Cat On My Head blog. Well, we just couldn’t miss another Selfie Day so I took it upon myself to show one and all the beret mom brought me back from Paris for me. Kali got one that is exactly the same. Where’s the French treats mom….trade ya the beret for the goodies. MOL Am I not one sophisticated kitty? I asked for a green beret but mom didn’t think I deserve a green one. I tell you…I’m not so sure about that woman.
Please stop by The Cat On My Head and view our friends trying to show their best side. It’s a riot. Mom this was a long blog. I’m bone tired but a little peckish. Are there any treats in the big Paris bag? There are? What do ya mean I have to share them with Kali. What did she do? Oh alright if I HAVE to.
Let’s move that table Kali so there’s room to dance and play, *herd of elephants*. Crap it’s heavy Shoko! I know but I couldn’t ask mom and dad to move it before they left. I guess not.
KALI…..ORANGE What kinda food should we put out Shoko? That’s no biggie Kali….we’ll put out what we like for the cats, the others may be a bit more difficult but we’ll figure it out. Chickens, roasted with powdered nip and silvervine stuffing. Geez databbiesotrouttowne are not going to be pleased with a berd around. Well, it’s not alive or pecking at them and many of our pals love chicky. We can’t please everyone Kali, I wish we could but we’re all different
We have a dish called Sashimi. Sashimi is used to cleanse your palette between different courses. Salmon fresh from the Pacific. We had some Sockeye Salmon filets shipped in from Prince Rupert to tempt the taste buds of the fishy fanatics like YOU. hehe
We will grill the salmon to perfection right in front of your eyes. For those more daring we have salmon sushi. Wow Shoko where did you get this stuff? It’s delicious but we didn’t have any money. Well, the chicky was in the freezer and the salmon was sent down to us from our friends in Rupert. We don’t have any friends in Rupert Shoko. Do you hafta be so picky Kali? Did you do something dishonest for it Shoks? No, I got the salmon from the freezer too. So, you’re just a big wind bag Shoko! Nope, these things are perfect. Where do you think mom and dad got the salmon? Prince Rupert? Exactly.
Now when our pals bring their lucky pot dishes, we’ll have a tasty set up. Why the name lucky pot? The police will be alerted to our activities. Let them be! We’re lucky to have a pot of anything from our friends. That’s what I mean.
Gracie lent us her favourite condo playground to play and have herd of elephant games. It’s a massive tree.
I “borrowed” 2 diffusers to play. “Name That Stink.” What do our friends win if they guess the right stink, Shoko? Ummm…I never thought of that Kali. What toys do you have Kali? Toys that don’t have teeth marks in them like mine? I got a wind up mouse but I slobber on my toys. It’s rude to give a bitten or slobbered on toy. I know!! Remember those straws that mom found when she went out for coffee with her friend. You mean the ones from Starbucks and Tim Horton’s? Exactly! There must be 70 of them there. Mom goes out for coffee a lot. Those can be take home prizes. Is Nellie coming Shoko? She figures she can sneak away for a few hours but will be home when mom goes to visit. Nellie wouldn’t say a word about our pawty to mom, I know it. She is the Queen of The Cat From Hell so she won’t say ,”nip.” She can get on her cell phone and let us know when mom’s coming home. Then we can have everything shiny and new looking.
We left from Banff, Alberta on board The Royal Hudson steam engine, driven train.
Some celebrities boarded the train also.
Si and Am from, “The Lady and the Tramp.” boarded in cognito but I recognized them. Quickly followed by Sylvester, Felix and Garfield.
This was a special luxury train, so there were additions to the regular cars. Such as a Spa Car. Si and Am indulged in a mani/pedi.
In the Observation Car Sylvester and I had a wee chat.
So, was Sylvester Stallone named after you?
Later, Sylvester tickled the ivories for his fans. While Garfield and Felix were exploring the train.
The train stopped at a few villages and towns, like Craigellachie. Craigellachie is most famous because the last spike was driven into the Canadian Pacific Railway track right at this location in 1885.
The wildlife was abundant. My favourite sight was this bear catching a salmon. Wish the rodents in the backyard would jump into my mouth. hehe
There was some fuss by Si and Am over some jewels, they thought had been stolen from them.
Pretty snazzy looking jewels to me. Sapphires, I think that’s what they are. However, with the help of some dedicated Cat Scouts , they were found. Much to the delight of Si and Am(ahem). Well perhaps delight is too strong a word.
We all arrived at the roundhouse in North Vancouver. It was a fun trip with all my Cat Scout friends and a few celebs to liven up the trip.
