Still Running Amok in Paris

Mom and dad charged out of the hotel and headed for the buses.  They only had two hours to get to the luncheon cruise on the Seine.                                                           They grabbed a Hop On/Off bus and enjoyed some more of the view.

The bus came to the entrance way into The Louvre, and the square where Marie Antoinette and Louis IV lost their heads to the guillotine.  Would this be a cleaner way to wipe out the mouses and bugs?   No, I think I’d have nightmares about headless mouses.  Makes me shiver….ugh.                                                                              Wonder why the entrance is so tall and yet narrow?

All vehicles had to squeeze through the gate. Perhaps there was  an extra inch or two on either side of the bus.  Mom said it was an odd feeling to be squished to fit.  I don’t think they actually squished her though….yuck….a revolting thought.

They arrived on the other side and ta da….there was The Louvre.

Sorry bout this picture my friends….dad seemed to get the wrong angle..  You get the idea though.                                                                                    This is Place de la Concorde.  Mom says it’s huge and has quite the history.  Wikipedia supplied the facts we needed to inform you.

The place was designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel in 1755 as a moat-skirted octagon between the Champs-Elysées to the west and the Tuileries Garden to the east. Decorated with statues and fountains, the area was named Place Louis XV to honor the king at that time. The square showcased an equestrian statue of the king, which had been commissioned in 1748 by the city of Paris, sculpted mostly by Edmé Bouchardon, and completed by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle after the death of Bouchardon.

At the north end, two magnificent identical stone buildings were constructed. Separated by the rue Royale, these structures remain among the best examples of Louis Quinze style architecture. Initially, the eastern building served as the French Naval Ministry. Shortly after its construction, the western building became the opulent home of the Duc d’Aumont. It was later purchased by the Comte de Crillon, whose family resided there until 1907. The famous luxury Hôtel de Crillon, which currently occupies the building, took its name from its previous owners.

French Revolution

During the French Revolution in 1789 the statue of Louis XV of France was torn down and the area renamed Place de la Révolution. The new revolutionary government erected the guillotine in the square, and it was here that King Louis XVI was executed on 21 January 1793.

Other important figures guillotined on the site, often in front of cheering crowds, were Queen Marie Antoinette, Princess Élisabeth of France, Charlotte Corday, Madame du Barry, Georges Danton, Camille Desmoulins, Antoine Lavoisier, Maximilien Robespierre, Louis de Saint-Just and Olympe de Gouges.

Execution of Louis XVI in the then Place de la Révolution. The empty pedestal in front of him had supported a statue of his grandfather, Louis XV, torn down during one of the many revolutionary riots.

In 1795, under the Directory, the square was renamed Place de la Concorde as a gesture of reconciliation after the turmoil of the French Revolution. After the Bourbon Restoration of 1814, the name was changed back to Place Louis XV, and in 1826 the square was renamed Place Louis XVI. After the July Revolution of 1830 the name was returned to Place de la Concorde and has remained that way since.

Time had gotten away from these two again.  They were not sure  where the cruise was so…… it was taxi time again.                                                                          Mom and dad arrived with little time to spare.  They were shown to their tables right away and mom plopped down and started to take her coat off.  One must remember these tables are small and very close together….mom forgot and stretched away like she was at home.  She spilled the wine on the table behind her.   There were gasps but when mom turned around to say she was sorry, the waiter had already moved them to another table.  This is how to keep peeps away from you in the future. MOL                                                                        This was the appetizer.  Five different selections to start the meal.  The main course offered five small selections as did the desserts.  A most tantalizing meal.                                                                        A replica of the Statue of Liberty with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

The studio apartments that look quaint and artsy are all over Paris, not in a certain area….everywhere.  Seemed to take away their charm to mom.  These apartments are very expensive.                                                                  After the yummy food and a rest mom was set to go again.  They headed back toward the Mercure Montmartre hotel….on the Metro this time.  They actually went right to the correct exit and headed to the Moulin Rouge.                                                                      Feeling confident in their ability to get about in a strange city, they decided to catch a wee train up to Sacre Coeur.                                                                  Mom loved this train….look at those cobblestones too.  The ride was a tad bumpy. MOL  Get that luncheon jumping around in her tummy.                                                               Wow…this church is a real beauty even by Parisians standards.

Wikipedia gives us some additional info on Sacre Coeur,

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica and often simply Sacré-Cœur (French: Basilique du Sacré-Cœur, pronounced [sakʁe kœʁ]), is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Paris, France. A popular landmark, the basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city. Sacré-Cœur is a double monument, political and cultural, both a national penance for the defeat of France in the 1870 Franco-Prussian War and the socialist Paris Commune of 1871[1] crowning its most rebellious neighborhood, and an embodiment of conservative moral order, publicly dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was an increasingly popular vision of a loving and sympathetic Christ.[2]

The Sacré-Cœur Basilica was designed by Paul Abadie. Construction began in 1875 and was finished in 1914. It was consecrated after the end of World War I in 1919.

This little area is also an artist’s haven.  Many paintings and designed items could be found while pounding the cobblestones.  Mom found a few items to warm our hearts and set our paws to clapping for more.                                                               Mom and dad dragged themselves back to the hotel for a rest before they met up with Phenny, Katty and Mark from Easy’s Blog tomorrow.

Which do you think is the best picture?                                          See there is a crown on the bobble hat.

The Kentucky Derby was held today.  I had bet on Classic Empire and Kali McCracken.  Well, neither of us won but we had a great time at Cat Scouts.  We of course were accompanied by our boyfriends.horses

Kali watched to see if any horses were passing.  Yep, most of them passed her horse…McCracken.

We had a delicious dinner in this spectacular dining room.

Toodles my friends and have a great day.

Artsy, Smartsy Caturday All Day

I stepped up and stated….”I want my picture taken and designed for Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Artsy Caturday.”  What do you know mom listened to me.

We then headed over to Lunapic with this picture.                                                            Mom scaled the picture down and then add reflective water along with the Floating effect.                                                                                    Something tells me I’m going to lose the reflective water on Athena’s blog.

Have a great Caturday and a sunny one too.

Sunday Selfie with Kali

Shoko is cordoning off the crime scene in the laundry room so she said I should take over and pose for the selfie today.  She’s assembling pictures of the position of Elton John and measuring the bite marks.  She’s thinking of calling in an expert as the blood evidence has her baffled.                                                                  aacrimescenelrdone

The Cat On My Head has their blog hop of anipals showing there selfies.  Just hop on over and observe some of the most charming buds in Blogville.                                                                                 aakali1One of the few times I ventured outside, mom snapped a picture.

Follow Through And a Great Idea

Mom and I weighed in this morning to start my, what would it be…it’s not a diet but a being conscious of how much I eat.  I know, this will be My SHOKO ALERT.  We only have to weigh in once a week. Then mom and I headed downstairs for my exercise wearing my tiger vest.  Well, mom headed down to the basement, I was very slow and followed 10 minutes later.  I mince along like a little old lady in a hurry.  Dad laughed at me…..I was so embarrassed….I gave him the evil eye like only I can do.

After our jaunt about the basement we headed upstairs.  Well, mom headed upstairs and I slowly followed.  It was time for Kali’s ointment for the patch of fur she’s scratched out.  Mom this is a really bad picture.  You should take a picture BEFORE you put the ointment on.  Now it looks like a wet and messy part of her fur.  Actually the bare spot is about the size of 4 silver dollars.  It’s a big patch.                                                                           kalibareskinKali was very good and even rolled on the side so she couldn’t scratch the bare patch.                                                                     kalizm

It’s very cold here again. The water outside is starting to freeze except on one side so the hotel clients can still get water. Not much of a sign of cats nor peeps.

Keep bundled up my friends and see ya on the flip side of cold.

May your ducks be in a row and your…

Hey Shoko…..I just heard Nellie’s been sick, really ill.  What?  My Nellie….the queen of The Cat From Hell?  Geez, how is she now, Kali?  I think she is a bit better.  What can we do for our fellow Canuck that will cheer her up?  I know Kali….how about if we have her up for a visit?  It’s awful cold up here, Shoko.  She’s certainly not used to the cold anymore what with living in the banana belt of BC.  We can keep her warm inside and I know she’d love to see the hotel guests.  She can hiss or stick out her tongue at them.  It’ll be fun.  We have to ask her mom first Shoko and then do whatever her mom thinks is right.  Let’s call Nellie and tell her of our plan.

RRRRRRINGGGGG

Hello?  Is this you, Nellie…The Cat From Hell’s queen?                                                              aacellphoneshokIt’s mes.  This must be Shoko from the north?  Ya, MOL.  How are you feelin’ Nellie?  Mes is better but not on top of things. We even got a picture of you here on the phone. You are lookin’ real good to us girlfriend. Kali is with me and we wanted to know how you feel about visiting with us for a bit?  Mes never been way up there.  Mes want to go visit you and Kali.  I must tell mom but she’ll want to know how we’ll get there.  I have a magic carpet which makes the ride in seconds.  You won’t have the chance to get cold.                                                            nandphoneMes excited but mommy must be told and it depends on her.  I’ll ask her tonight Shoko and let you know.  Sounds good Nellie.  Really build it up Nellie so she’ll feel guilty saying no.  You know, use the tricks you taught me in Cat From Hell classes.  MOL, good memory Shoko.  Tuttees Shoko…Ring my chimes Nellie…MOL..Mew later.

SHOKO…..BLACK

KALI…..ORANGE

NELLIE…..GREEN

May the vet never earn a Loonie out of you.

Christmas Selfies

Here it is Christmas Eve and we are playing around near the tree.  We’re waiting for Santa,  We gotta do something while we’re waiting.  Cow Kitty dropped by and decided he’d investigate the tree.                                                                                  aackcrsm
You see that pile that looks like a dead body in the hall…well it is……OK, OK….a dead body is much more interesting than what it is. MOL  Use your imagination friends….what do you think we have in our hall?

Here is a much nicer picture of Cow Kitty as he posed for his picture.                                                                    aackzmsmIf, Cow Kitty behaved like a gentleman, like now, I wouldn’t have as many issues with him.

Kali got herself quite comfy under the tree for a snooze near mom’s wagon.  Dad didn’t want to try and wrap it.                                                                        aakalisleepzmcr

It is Selfie Sunday at The Cat on my Head and Kali is starring as our model.  Drop by and visit the other models.

catonheadbdI am busying myself with my intellectualized toy.  They must think I’m stupid….I am a meezer….I know things.  Like I know how to stick my paw in a cup and come up with treats.  Geesh!                                                                          aashoklook

What I want to know is where is the little person that keeps putting treats in them.  I’ve looked and looked but can’t find him.  Perhaps he lives under the cups. ” Anybody in there….come on out and chat,  I’d rather have Catnip Greenies in here.” Hmmm…what to do?

Thank you to all our friends for the wonderful Christmas wishes.  Here are just some of the cards.  We were overwhelmed by such kind and thoughtful friends.

aacczmNotice the pitiful plant…..this is my toy when I get bored.  It never seems to grow yet I’ve played smacky paw many times with it.

Merry Christmas my friends…..we love your visits.  Have a wonderful Day.

May Santa bring you all the Christmas joy your heart can hold!
