Sunday Happenings

Hey, this Saturday is so warm!  The weatherman says +6C….toasty.

My spidey senses tell me there is another pair of paws wandering around the house. Could it be, yes it’s gotta be the white tornado!

It’s not me Shoks…I’m grabbing a few winks before you get in my face again. I don’t get in your face! I strategically place myself in a position where you can’t miss seeing me. Like I said…in my face. Whatever!

Wonder what this racket could be.  It seems to be coming from the bedroom.  As any good guard cat, I must uncover this mystery.

Oh no, we had forgotten bout Elfin John!  Go away and leave me alone.  You bugged me til Crisp Mouse last year.  I’m taking a nap in my pillow tent.

No, no….I meant ALONE!  I don’t want to sleep with you.

Geez, you don’t have to bow to me…I would never hurt you little Elfin. You seem like one of the good Christmas elves.

I’m flyin! hehe,  I’m free.

I

I caught a fish for Shoko. She’ll be so impressed.  For me?  Thanks, Elfin J.

Shopping In My World- Cooking In Fort Meezer

This month Phenny from Easy Blog is our super host for Shopping Around the World and Phenny says we must make something with gourds.  Mom debated about this.  Should she make cookies, a loaf….what to do?  She finally decided to make up her own recipe.  Give her a minute and she’ll name it.

SHOKO…..BLACK
KALI…..ORANGE

Should we both help mom, Kali?  I think so Shoko….this recipe is from whatever she dreams up….perhaps us guiding her would be a good idea.  I’ll be back later Kali, I hear the wind calling my name.  Really, what a wiener head! Humph!  Guess it’s you and me, mom.                                                We will call this dish, “Haunted Squished Squash Head.”  Pretty descriptive, eh?  It is a meal for Halloween.

Let’s get on with this very creative dish.

Haunted Squished Squash Head or (HSSH to save space on paper)

Ingredients:

1 acorn squash
1 pkg Knorr Sidekick Noodles
leftover veggies in the fridge
some frozen peas and corn
1 300g pkg, frozen shrimp

The very first thing to do is get a sharp knife and scoop.  Cut a face in the acorn squash and scoop out the seeds and pulp.

We’ll rinse and drain the shrimp.

These shrimp were $6.17 for the package of 300 g. at Real Canadian Superstore.                                                       You want to take your acorn squash and steam the cut faced squash.  The size depends on how many people are having dinner with you.  If there are two, like mom and dad, then a small to medium-sized squash will be plenty.

The acorn squash was $1.99 for one at Superstore.

Put the squash in a cup of water in the casserole dish and cover with tin foil.  Cook the squash with nothing in it for about an hour at 350F.  It is finished cooking when the meat inside is just slightly tender.

Oops!  Looks like the steaming turned our Harold squash into a Harry the Haggard-Faced Squished Squash.

NO PICTURE!

You want to make up your Sidekick noodles now.  Make them up from the directions on the bag just use about 1/4 C less water.  Mom used the Honey Garlic noodles.

The Knorr Sidekick noodles were $0.97 at Superstore.

To the water for the noodles add whatever produce you have leftover in the fridge….within reason…..no cantaloupe or melon in the pasta, please.   For example, mom had a little left over red and yellow peppers.  So she chopped them into small chunks and there were 5 mushrooms sitting in the fridge so they went into the pasta water too.  The mushrooms and peppers will lose juice which will go into the water, this is why we cut out 1/4C of the water.  Now cook the noodles as per the recipe. You’re going to get a whole bucket of pasta mom….you’ll never get it into the squash.  No way!

I’m back.  I had to teach Mr, Fishie not to swim from me.  I stared at him then smashed his smiling face.  I’ll put him back in the water after I help you.

I’m busy Shoko….sit quietly.  Are you saying I have verbal diarrhea?  No, but I am telling everyone how to make this dish and you’re screwing it up.  Ohh!  Sorry!  *Shh* We start stuffing the cooked squash shell.  The squash takes a fair bit of the noodle filling.

Now that the noodle filling is in place.   Place the squash in the same casserole dish, minus the water, and then in the oven at 350F until it is warmed up about 20 minutes.

When the squash is out of the oven, use a fork and pull some of the noodles through the eye and mouth sockets.  These are worms.  Put some shrimp on the top of the squash head with the tail sticking out.  For effect, pour some cocktail sauce over the shrimp (blood).  Have some blood coming out of the eyes.

There is your Haunted Squished Squash Head.  I was right.  There was enough filling for another Haunted Squished Squash Head tomorrow night.

Happy Halloween!

Caturday Artsy Day with an Old Tart

I’m not a tart Shoko!!  I’m a pristine lady.  You mean, * a lady of the evening.*  No….not anymore….I don’t make it much past 8pm.  Then it’s time for the TV and a snooze.                                               It is time for Athena’s Caturday art and I am going to use Lunapic but something just a little different.                                                  Go see Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty and see what kind of expressions are on the faces of your friends as they pose for you.

Mom did the Landscape Art and then for effect she put me in a Photo Booth and finally she put a border on the picture.                                                     All I can say is….you gave me a blue beard!  MOL…well, it’s Miss Bluebeard herself….Matey, you are a sight for sore eyes.

Have a great Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend and for those of you not in Canada…it’s turkey time here…..care to visit?

Still Running Amok in Paris

Mom and dad charged out of the hotel and headed for the buses.  They only had two hours to get to the luncheon cruise on the Seine.                                                           They grabbed a Hop On/Off bus and enjoyed some more of the view.

The bus came to the entrance way into The Louvre, and the square where Marie Antoinette and Louis IV lost their heads to the guillotine.  Would this be a cleaner way to wipe out the mouses and bugs?   No, I think I’d have nightmares about headless mouses.  Makes me shiver….ugh.                                                                              Wonder why the entrance is so tall and yet narrow?

All vehicles had to squeeze through the gate. Perhaps there was  an extra inch or two on either side of the bus.  Mom said it was an odd feeling to be squished to fit.  I don’t think they actually squished her though….yuck….a revolting thought.

They arrived on the other side and ta da….there was The Louvre.

Sorry bout this picture my friends….dad seemed to get the wrong angle..  You get the idea though.                                                                                    This is Place de la Concorde.  Mom says it’s huge and has quite the history.  Wikipedia supplied the facts we needed to inform you.

The place was designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel in 1755 as a moat-skirted octagon between the Champs-Elysées to the west and the Tuileries Garden to the east. Decorated with statues and fountains, the area was named Place Louis XV to honor the king at that time. The square showcased an equestrian statue of the king, which had been commissioned in 1748 by the city of Paris, sculpted mostly by Edmé Bouchardon, and completed by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle after the death of Bouchardon.

At the north end, two magnificent identical stone buildings were constructed. Separated by the rue Royale, these structures remain among the best examples of Louis Quinze style architecture. Initially, the eastern building served as the French Naval Ministry. Shortly after its construction, the western building became the opulent home of the Duc d’Aumont. It was later purchased by the Comte de Crillon, whose family resided there until 1907. The famous luxury Hôtel de Crillon, which currently occupies the building, took its name from its previous owners.

French Revolution

During the French Revolution in 1789 the statue of Louis XV of France was torn down and the area renamed Place de la Révolution. The new revolutionary government erected the guillotine in the square, and it was here that King Louis XVI was executed on 21 January 1793.

Other important figures guillotined on the site, often in front of cheering crowds, were Queen Marie Antoinette, Princess Élisabeth of France, Charlotte Corday, Madame du Barry, Georges Danton, Camille Desmoulins, Antoine Lavoisier, Maximilien Robespierre, Louis de Saint-Just and Olympe de Gouges.

Execution of Louis XVI in the then Place de la Révolution. The empty pedestal in front of him had supported a statue of his grandfather, Louis XV, torn down during one of the many revolutionary riots.

In 1795, under the Directory, the square was renamed Place de la Concorde as a gesture of reconciliation after the turmoil of the French Revolution. After the Bourbon Restoration of 1814, the name was changed back to Place Louis XV, and in 1826 the square was renamed Place Louis XVI. After the July Revolution of 1830 the name was returned to Place de la Concorde and has remained that way since.

Time had gotten away from these two again.  They were not sure  where the cruise was so…… it was taxi time again.                                                                          Mom and dad arrived with little time to spare.  They were shown to their tables right away and mom plopped down and started to take her coat off.  One must remember these tables are small and very close together….mom forgot and stretched away like she was at home.  She spilled the wine on the table behind her.   There were gasps but when mom turned around to say she was sorry, the waiter had already moved them to another table.  This is how to keep peeps away from you in the future. MOL                                                                        This was the appetizer.  Five different selections to start the meal.  The main course offered five small selections as did the desserts.  A most tantalizing meal.                                                                        A replica of the Statue of Liberty with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

The studio apartments that look quaint and artsy are all over Paris, not in a certain area….everywhere.  Seemed to take away their charm to mom.  These apartments are very expensive.                                                                  After the yummy food and a rest mom was set to go again.  They headed back toward the Mercure Montmartre hotel….on the Metro this time.  They actually went right to the correct exit and headed to the Moulin Rouge.                                                                      Feeling confident in their ability to get about in a strange city, they decided to catch a wee train up to Sacre Coeur.                                                                  Mom loved this train….look at those cobblestones too.  The ride was a tad bumpy. MOL  Get that luncheon jumping around in her tummy.                                                               Wow…this church is a real beauty even by Parisians standards.

Wikipedia gives us some additional info on Sacre Coeur,

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica and often simply Sacré-Cœur (French: Basilique du Sacré-Cœur, pronounced [sakʁe kœʁ]), is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Paris, France. A popular landmark, the basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city. Sacré-Cœur is a double monument, political and cultural, both a national penance for the defeat of France in the 1870 Franco-Prussian War and the socialist Paris Commune of 1871[1] crowning its most rebellious neighborhood, and an embodiment of conservative moral order, publicly dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was an increasingly popular vision of a loving and sympathetic Christ.[2]

The Sacré-Cœur Basilica was designed by Paul Abadie. Construction began in 1875 and was finished in 1914. It was consecrated after the end of World War I in 1919.

This little area is also an artist’s haven.  Many paintings and designed items could be found while pounding the cobblestones.  Mom found a few items to warm our hearts and set our paws to clapping for more.                                                               Mom and dad dragged themselves back to the hotel for a rest before they met up with Phenny, Katty and Mark from Easy’s Blog tomorrow.

The Kentucky Derby was held today.  I had bet on Classic Empire and Kali McCracken.  Well, neither of us won but we had a great time at Cat Scouts.  We of course were accompanied by our boyfriends.horses

Kali watched to see if any horses were passing.  Yep, most of them passed her horse…McCracken.

We had a delicious dinner in this spectacular dining room.

Toodles my friends and have a great day.

Artsy, Smartsy Caturday All Day

I stepped up and stated….”I want my picture taken and designed for Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty’s Artsy Caturday.”  What do you know mom listened to me.

We then headed over to Lunapic with this picture.                                                            Mom scaled the picture down and then add reflective water along with the Floating effect.                                                                                    Something tells me I’m going to lose the reflective water on Athena’s blog.

Have a great Caturday and a sunny one too.

Sunday Selfie with Kali

Shoko is cordoning off the crime scene in the laundry room so she said I should take over and pose for the selfie today.  She’s assembling pictures of the position of Elton John and measuring the bite marks.  She’s thinking of calling in an expert as the blood evidence has her baffled.                                                                  aacrimescenelrdone

The Cat On My Head has their blog hop of anipals showing there selfies.  Just hop on over and observe some of the most charming buds in Blogville.                                                                                 aakali1One of the few times I ventured outside, mom snapped a picture.
