Thankful Thursday with Ornaments

Today is Thankful Thursday at Brian’s Home.  Join in the blog hop why don’tcha?  Just hit the red letters with your mousie and you’ll be visiting.                                                                         
Today mom tried to decorate the livingroom.  I helped.  She put the greenery on the mantel.  I wanted to put my nanner on the mantel but slipped on the lights.  Oh dear!  Everything ended up on top of me on the floor.  So that didn’t help.  I tried again but with the same results.  Mom was getting a little ticked and I was getting tired.  Time to move on.
I examined the box where the tree lives for any parts that had fallen off.  Looks good dad…it’s a go….no pieces of the tree are stuck in the box.

The base had to be examined for any breakage, spider webs and other vermin.   Once again I helped.  I supervised the light inside the base, no spider or webs.  All other vermin had cleared out.  Check….ready for the tree.

I am so thankful that mom moved this tree indoors and is dressing it up.  What fun!!  Budd and Shoko like it too but don’t seem so excited.
I want to hug this tree….it’s beautiful.                                                                 C’mon let me hug you…..you big green trapeze.
Can you bring my dinner over here and I’ll share it with Mr. Tree.                                                              Then I’ll jump up and down on the branches and see if I bounce.

 

Shopping Around The World for Potatoes

Bacon of Piglove started this Shopping Around The World but Phenny of Easy Blog is in charge of this months edition.                                                 

This month Phenny says he wants potato dishes for the recipe. OK Phenny, Shoko is going to assist mom with this yummy recipe.

Our meal this month is:

Crispy Roasted Parmesan Potatoes

Prep Time:

10 minutes
Cook Time:
35 minutes for a total time of 45 minutes.

You will need:

750g/1.5 Ib.baby potatoes                                       

Cost $3.27

olive oil 25.5 fluid ounces                                              

Cost  $8.99

250 Grams Kraft Parmesan Cheese

Cost $7.99

Ingredients:

1 bag of   750g/1.5 Ib.baby potatoes, halved
2 tbsp of olive oil plus some for drizzling
1/2 tsp dried oregano or thyme
1/2 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black  pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 cup grated parmesan, the sand like type.

Dipping Sauce…optional
3/4C sour cream
green onions chopped…have lots if you like them!

Sour Cream

                                                 250 ml. for $1.98

Fresh Green Onions                                          

1 bunch $0.99

Directions:

Drizzle oil in 9 X 13″ glass baking dish.  Tilt pan to spread all over the base.
Use a spoon to scatter the Parmesan Mixture over the base. Spread as evenly as you can. Once sprinkled do not touch….don’t try to spread it. You’ll regret it!
Place potatoes cut side down, pressing firmly.
Optional: drizzle the top of potatoes with a touch of oil or spray with oil, then sprinkle with salt. Mom used olive oil Pam from her cupboard of goodies.

Bake potatoes for 35 to 40 minutes or until they are soft and the parmesan crust is a deep golden….no problems, you can check through the glass.

Let them rest for 5 minutes. Then use a spatula to cut between every 4 or so potatoes (cutting through the parmesan crust which bonds between each potato.), then scoop up 4 or so potatoes and flip them upside down so the cheese side is up on the platter.

Much better…this dish looks pretty good.

Serve with dipping sauce, if using, and sprinkle over extra green onion if desired.  Serve as a side dish or nibbles!

Dad said, “These are surprisingly delicious…watching your mom I had to wonder.” Makes ya feel good, eh mom? mol

Shopping and Cooking Around the World

 

Bacon, of Piglove,  is having his Shopping Around the World blog hop today and we thought we would honour him by cooking a snack with no meat.  Teddy of Two Spoiled Cats is the guest host for this month so we applaud Teddy for taking on the duty.  *apaws* *apaws*  We decided this was a great idea.                                                  Our snack is a warm and a fun food….no cares, no worries.  The only things that lost their lives ….oh, oh!  What Shoks?  What did YOU do wrong?  This snack has meat….bacon to be exact.  How could you Shoko…..poor Bacon…you’re cooking him!  The poor guy.  I feel terrible Kali.  You should…maybe we can get around it.  We’ll call it, um, nocab.  Gotcha!

Today we are making CHEESE AND NOCAB-STUFFED PEPPERS  This is a snack you can make and cook in 30 seconds…I mean minutes, 30 minutes.  Mom can make it up quickly cause dad keeps eating them.  So she’s getting lots of practice.

INGREDIENTS

10 jalapeno or banana peppers…$0.27 each fresh
2 slices of nocab….$5.28…500 grams No Name
3 tablespoons cream cheese…$2,88 No Name
2 tablespoons of fresh mint…$1.98 President’s Choice

DIRECTIONS

Seed peppers. Cook nocab slices until crispy. Finely chop or rip them up. Stir cream cheese with chopped mint. Stuff peppers with cream cheese mixture and top with nocab pieces. Broil on a baking sheet for 2 to 3 minutes.

                                                  You could have softened the cream cheese Shoko, crap!  My paws are getting cramps and I broke a nail.

 

This is it for the recipe.  You will notice mom has more than 3 tablespoons of cream cheese…this is because she’s cheating and adding more cream cheese with green onions and nocab…a little summer savoury for additional flavour.  I urge you to first try the recipe and then experiment.

The peppers are from our garden and so different sizes.

Sunday Selfie at Fort Meezer

Kali and I thought we’d show you what our family was doing today.  We spent most of the morning outside….all of us.                                                                Nice day and hardly any smoke.

Dad was outside getting rid of our old fence with a new one.  Him and the neighbour finally agreed on a fence and split the cost.

 Our new fence…look ma no pathways through the fence.  No introoders can come bouncing through the fence now.

A little feathered friend…ya, not a friend of mine….came for a drink.                                                                                   Come have a seat on the railing. *Shoko rubs paws together.*

I gotta admit this guy is tiny.

These are mom’s volunteer, “Love Lies Bleeding.”  They have red peeking out of the top of their heads.

I’m feeling a tad peckish, let’s go inside.                                                               Ya, this is my new place mat that mom brought me back from Paris.  I’m allowed to eat up on the island cause my food is one Kali shouldn’t have.

Hey Kali how’s the ole gal doing?  She’s OK….she’s watching and talking to the TVThe talking to the TV tells me she’s getting better.  What happened anyway Shoko…do you know?  Well, listening to dad and mom yak about her knee, it seems when they went to Omaha Beach after meeting up with Phenny and his mom and dad, mom fell down.  Really!!  Good ole mom, when in doubt, have a bath….sorry, that’s for us not mom.  For mom it would be….MAKE A TURKEY OF YOURSELF!

This picture  was taken moments before mom stood up, heard a crack and fell on her face.  Da Phenny knew it was coming and wanted to get out of there fast so is dragging his mom behind him. MOL.

When they got to London they caught a virus….both of them.  This knocked them so low that they could barely be seen on our cat radar, but I get ahead of myself as all of the residents at the house in Normandy were involved in fixing our recipe of the month for Shopping Around The World.

Seems mom was the bossy dudette for our recipe of Fish Cakes made with salmon.  She says supervisor, we say bossy.

Ingredients:

1 tin Sockeye Salmon….150 grams $5.25 in Canadian Dollars

1 onion…. 1.29 euro a pound , $ 1.38

8 small potatoes……very small…1.99 for a kilo,  $$ 2.13 euro

some butter….in cupboard

A true international dinner.

Directions:

1/ Dice onion but not too small.  Throw a teaspoon of butter in frying pan to brown onion.  Put onion in frying pan and cook at medium-high…stirring frequently or your onion will be black as my face. MOL

2/ While the onion is browning, cut up the potatoes and boil them in a pot.

The potatoes are boiling and the onion is sautéing as demonstrated by our model Broomhilda Brush, a charming woman.

With your other hand chunk up the sockeye salmon after you have removed the juice and given it to the pet at your elbow.                                                                 As you see, aforementioned pet is helping Broomhilda get the salmon juice out of the can and telling us to flake off, it’s his juice.

3/ The potatoes are done so smash them like this foreign resident of the house.

                                                                         4/ Turn onions off at this time.

5/ Add salt and pepper to taste and about 1 tablespoon breadcrumbs.

6/  Combine smashed potatoes, browned onions. salt, pepper, breadcrumbs and of course the salmon in bowl.  Mix with hands.  It tastes better this way.

7/ Make patties with your hands.  Put 2 tablespoons butter in frying pan and turn the temperature to high.  Watch constantly. Don’t forget to place the patties in pan. After about 5 minutes turn the cakes over and do the same on the other side.  You want to brown them on either side….not burn them.  DONE!                                                             These are some scrumptious looking fish cakes. Mmmm…perhaps some more potatoes would be wise next time.

A wonderful meal that we all had part in making.  What? Mr. Brush  didn’t do anything?                                                                   Oh yes he did!  Mr. Brush appears to have eaten a little more than the chair could hack.  The chair broke but Phenny was there to the rescue, moving so fast he’s a blur.

It is also Sunday Selfie Day with The Cat On My Head blog.  Well, we just couldn’t miss another Selfie Day so I took it upon myself to show one and all the beret mom brought me back from Paris for me.  Kali got one that is exactly the same.  Where’s the French treats mom….trade ya the beret for the goodies.  MOL                                                         Am I not one sophisticated kitty?  I asked for a green beret but mom didn’t think I deserve a green one.  I tell you…I’m not so sure about that woman.

Artsy, Fartsy Day With Kali
