Shoko Describes Summer Camp

Does it ever feel good to sleep beside mom again in our bed.  No rocks under my back or sticks digging into my legs when I lay out.  Did you miss me, Kali?  No…well maybe a wee bit.  It seemed so quiet without you rushing up and down the hall with your thunder-paws or balancing on the banister.

Well, I just gotta be me, Kali.

On with my tail of summer camp.  To even go to summer camp we needed to make a Bowline Knot and show it to Denmaster along with our letter of Purrmission from mom.
My Bowline Knot

Our signed letter of purrmission.

We made a tye dyed scarf for our moms.  I loved playing in the dyes but Denmaster made us use gloves so we wouldn’t turn our paws all sorts of colours.  I worked on that scarf for hours and then dried it and made the colour set so it wouldn’t rub off on mom’s neck.
Mom loves it and is wearing it now. It looks pretty on her.

Later that afternoon we went on a nature walk with our guide Homer the Black Cat.  He showed us so many birds….it was amazing. The Stellar’s Jay is British Columbia’s provincial bird and also a regular at Yosemite.  It’s a beautiful bird.  As far as bird’s go, that is.

The only other bird that blew me away was the California Peregrine Falcon. His body is about the size of a crow’s body but his wing span can be over 4 ft. Holy birdman…..that is huge! He goes like stink too, when he’s trying to catch prey….over 200 mph! Never want to get on his bad side.

The next day there was a S’mores competition. I entered some Nanaimo Bars because they are Canada’s answer to S’mores. I didn’t win but was delighted for the mancat that did win, he’s in my patrol and is an excellent cook.
Maggie and I had a very nice tent overlooking the river. Only thing was I kept having to visit the dirt patch and do my duty as the river kept the water running with me too. MOL
There was a poetry workshop where we learned the different types of poems.  We all submitted 3 poems.  There were 3 winners and I was one of them.  I won a Cat Scouts notebook.  Wowee!!

Then the Knowlege Bowl about the things we’ve seen and done at Summer Camp.  The fellow cat that won is also in our patrol.  He is very smart.  Almost Siamese smart but not quite.

Then something happened….I will tell you tomorrow.  It kept me on my claws.

Saturday at Shoko’s

I broke my own rule today.  I vowed I would never climb, other than jumping over the fence that is….well today I saw a woodpecker.  You know, the feathery guys with one big long nose that goes tap-tap-tap on the chimney.  Well, I had enough of this Joe Woodpecker and wanted him gone.

shokonorthern flicker woodpeckerzmHere I am inching my way up the Arbor and the Northern Flicker Woodpecker is sitting on the roof of the greenhouse.  Dad got out his bird book and looked him up for me.  Thanks dad.

shoko2By the time I was up on the Arbor and already to tell that woodpecker where to go….he was gone.  It was dang slippery up on those wooden bars but I stayed up there for awhile just to make sure that guy didn’t come back.

Meanwhile Kali was keeping the basket warm so I curled up with her when I got in…….just to keep warm and snuggy.                                                                 SKzmElsewhere in the house, Elfin John was keeping himself amused.

elfin JohnzmYumpin’ yimminy I caught another nip sardine.  This is one great fishing hole.

Mom was making Potato and Leek soup for supper and dad was wishing for Chinese food.  Dad won and the potato and leek soup will be savoured another day.

Mom and dad, happy anniversary from Kali and I.  We promise to be good and not barf from overeating for the whole day.  You’ve been married for 44 years…holy dude, that’s like forever.  hehehe

Today is selfie Sunday so I have a selfie with Elfin John.  Do drop by  the blog Timmy’s Commentary and view all the other special anipal selfies.                                                                               elfinshok                                                                                                                                                    Kali and Shoks

Sunday Selfie and more

What a yucky day….nothing but rain, rain and then more rain.

It’s just as well Shoko is off at the Cat Scout carnival today or she’d be wanting to play, “chase and bite butt.”  I really don’t like that game but Shoko insists we should play it on rainy days.

In the past look at the toys I have been trying to entice Shoko with.  She finally got all soft and kissed me instead.

Shoko didn’t want me to say anything to you but yesterday mom was so angry with Shoko that I thought mom would burst!  It was a beautiful day here yesterday so mom opened the screen door to the deck, so Shoko and I could go in and out at will.  There are no mosquitos or many flies so she thought it was safe.  Mom was busy blanching some beans for freezing and Shoko came rushing in and headed straight for her condo,  Mom saw Shoko throwing something in the air so went over to investigate.  There lay a small bird, its heart just apounding.  Mom hollered,”NO, NO, NO…get away!” several times.  Mom doesn’t say no often so Shoko listened as mom picked up the little bird.

She put the wee one on a small dish and walked out on the deck.  The bird quickly flew away.  Mom breathed a deep sigh of relief.                                                                        This bird is an Immature Ground Finch and looks just like the bird Shoko had but it wasn’t as fat as this bird.  Now, Shoko doesn’t jump for a bird so this bird must have been running around on the ground.  This is also Shoko’s first bird….it took her 7 years to find one on the ground, I guess.

Now for my secret about Shoko.  Shoko is afraid of the Cat’s Meow.  You know, that fun toy.                                                                              Mom brought it out of the cupboard where it was out of Shoko’s view.  I was excited…..this is me being excited!  MOL

Mom put the Cat’s meow in the living room for a week without turning it on.  Shoko was sniffing it and sitting beside it.  It was time to turn it on.                                                                        Where’s Shoko?  She’s behind the chesterfield poking her head out to watch it. MOL  This is the big fierce hunter we’re talking about here!

Now, on to our Sunday Selfie.  The Cat on My Head has a blog hop for all us anipals.  Just hit the blog name and you’ll find yourself viewing other  selfies.                                                                          I love my box and nobody tries to take it away from me.

Weekend Wonders Never Cease

Here it is another Friday.  We had some visitors this week.  Mostly peeps so we were not amused.  Uncle Nels came up from Vancouver Island.  This is dad’s brother….they are nothing alike either.  They don’t look alike or act alike.  Go figure.  I look more like Shoko than dad looks like Uncle Nels.  Uncle Nels is a fantastic in/out/in/out/in/out player.  He never seems to tire.  So both Kali and I play this game whenever we see him.

Uncle Nels

Uncle Nels

The other peep visiting was Nels friend Rick.  Mom has known Rick for quite awhile now.  Rick’s thing is he’s into Superman.  Everything Superman.  Superman sheets, PJ’s, clocks and all.  Anything you can think of for Superman Rick has it or is thinking about having it.  He’s kinda cool.  I was expecting him to take off and start flying above my garden, then I could meow, “Look it’s a bird, it’s plane, no, it’s Superman!”

Superman Rick

Superman Rick

Here is the real Superman.                                                          Kali took a shine to Superman Rick because he’s so soft spoken.  She said there was no difference between the real superman and Superman Rick.  I told her she needed glasses….there is a difference big sis.  She was stubborn and said,” NO difference!.”  Time to drop this subject.

We also had a visit from the cow kitty next door.  Dudes and dudettes, this guy is growing like a weed.  His body is bigger but his head is still small.  He looks a little odd!  Hope his head grows pretty soon and catches up with his body.                                                                                                                                         Isn’t he a charmer, even if he has a small head.

It’s artsy, fartsy, Caturday tomorrow  at Athena and Maries blog,
