Friday in the Garden

It’s Friday and our seeds are starting to sprout.  Now, dad planted these little green beauties.  Mom is taking a sabbatical in her room and didn’t offer any advice.  This is very unusual as mom has an opinion on just about everything.

We explained to dad that carrots were small and ever so tiny so not too many in one spot.  Let’s see how he did.

The carrots sure are teeny.  A soaker hose is being used for irrigation this year cause when everything grows they spread out.  Then there is no space to water except the tops of plants.

The beets look quite a bit better.
I’ll take it from here Shoks.  Dad put in this barrel for watering last year but I never have seen anyone use it.  It makes a great perch for me to survey the nip patch though.

Out in Kali’s garden are the poppies and bleeding hearts.  I hide in them and Budd tries to find me.  They smell better than a nip appie.

Have a fun weekend and enjoy your sun patch.

Produce From Our Garden

I’ll bet you wondered what happened to us.  We haven’t posted for awhile.  Mom has been busy with harvesting the veggies.  Well, all this warm weather has had a great effect on the veggie garden.  The peas, chard and beet greens are being frozen for the winter.    Beets have been frozen and 2 bags of peas.  This took quite the amount of time.  We had to pick the peas, shell them and divide the older peas from the tender ones.  Granted mom and dad did most of this but I walked through the garden with her.  Just so she didn’t mess up the veggies.

What have we been doing while mom and dad are steaming their faces off with the veggies?  It has turned cool here so our pool has disappeared.  No more fun with the pool.  Dad cut our catnip wwwway back and hung the stalks from the ceiling of the deck.  Mom will pack the leaves and buds away for our relatives at Christmas.  This is still what mom and dad are doing but Kali and I helped  with these chores.  I sat in the middle of the catnip and yelled in perfect Niponese,”NO!! Not our nip!”  Dad didn’t listen but said my voice was very forceful.

No!  Down came the nip.  Mom said there is another full month of summer, at least, and I’ll be chewin’ on nip again this summer.  Nice tender nip too.  I like the sound of that mom.  Remember that Flat Einstein and Timmy are coming for a visit from Pennsylvania in August.

Kali has not been up to much.  She keeps using her stairs in the bedroom.  Looking all smug and happy.  Today I showed her what I could do with the stairs.

I just wanted Kali to see that I was no longer afraid of the stairs.  My point made, I left to help outside.

Kali went into the living room and covered herself while laying on the love seat.

I was not in as much demand as I thought so I headed out to the greenhouse.  Kali and I spent the rest of the afternoon resting up.

Hope your day was as mellow as yours.

A Fun Week

What a fun week we had.  Kali has been out sunning herself in her hat and sun glasses so she doesn’t have to worry about a burn.  Her fur is white and she seems to feel the effects of the sun quickly.

I'm set....no sun puddles for me. I want to get out and savour the sun's rays

Me?  well I’ve been helping mom, as usual.  We got several pots of flowers planted.  The leeks and celery were planted in the greenhouse along with the Summer Savoury herb.  We ran outside every few minutes as it was hot as stink in there.  I noticed a green pepper fruit is about an inch wide on the peppers.  All the squash is planted outside except the spaghetti squash.  So we need to plant the corn, cauliflower, swiss chard, beets and carrots yet.

This carrot seed tape is easy peasy.  No fuss or mess, just lay the tape down and cover with soil.  Of course, I grab the tape and run….just airing the seeds out.  Then I continually break them for mom.  So when she does lay them down…they are of a smaller size she can handle.

Earlier in the week Speedy The Cheeky Rex Rabbit had me as a guest bunny on Disapproving Bun Day.  I had a ball as a bunny.  Mr. Mick, a handsome guest bunny and I kicked up some dust with Speedy.

Nellie from The Cat From Hell also made me an honorary member of the Cat From Hell and put me on her Hellions Page.

I want to thank Speedy and Nellie for helping me have such a fun time.

Mom and I still have a fair bit of planting to do but it looks like a storm is moving in so the plants and seeds will have to wait…a good watering from the skies is needed for the plants and the forest fires.
