Mom and Dad Fly the Friendly Skies

Did mom tell you about their trip to France and the UK, Shoko?  She told me about France, Kali.  Did she tell you about the UK?  She did.  Then between the two of us we can tell our friends what they did on their vacation.

SHOKO…..BLACK
KALI…..ORANGE

In the middle of March mom and dad said goodbye and we never saw them again….whoa Shoko, they did come home.  Well, it was like 3 weeks till we saw those bleary  eyes again.  That’s like forever for a feline.                                                                            You have to be the biggest drama queen in Prince George, Shoko!

Off they flew down to Vancouver and to their motel  Dad grabbed someone else’s suitcase in the airport and never noticed until the airport called and told him.  Mom’s niece drove dad back to the airport to get their suitcase.

When the family gathered for dinner, they all gave mom the respect she deserved and kissed her ring.  Oh brother!  Mom is not the godfather of her family.  Who is then?  Nobody…it’s just a normal family.  Mom has a normal family….I don’t think so, there’s got to be something odd about them.  Whatever Shoko.

The next day they got up and flew on Air Canada to Montreal.  Four hours of cramped legs and a TV  set so close it was almost up her nose as the person in front set their seat to go back several feet.  Ok, Kali a few inches.  Geesh!

Mom was off the plane right smartly in Montreal and 3 gates away was the flight to Paris.  She quickly rushed over as they were calling for everyone to board.  Mom and dad were on the plane right smartly and then they sat and sat on the plane as the plane needed de-icing but there were two planes waiting to be de-iced first.

Finally the plane took off for Paris.  Mom was excited to be going to such a well-known and romantic city.  Six hours later, the thrill of going to  Paris had worn off as she felt sweaty, hot and incredibly tired.  Dad was snoring in the seat beside her.  She wanted to poke him but restrained herself.

At long last they arrived at Charles De Galle Airport in Paris.  The hotel chauffeur gave them the ride of their life.  There were mopeds all over the street, weaving in and out of traffic, that was bumper to bumper.  They reached the hotel safely and leaped to solid ground.                                                                   The best picture of a moped in traffic mom could get.  The bikes go like stink.

After checking into their little room, mom and dad went for a drink of Pepsi in the hotel lounge.  There was a small courtyard off the lounge so our pawrents decided to partake of the fresh air.  No Pepsi but Coca Cola everywhere in France.  Coke will do in a pinch.                                                             Does she not look like an enthusiastic explorer? MOL

Next installment finds mom and dad trying to navigate the Paris  transportation system.

Trippin’ On The Keys Pt. 2

ahhOf course this is Ernest Hemingway.  He was only 62 when he went to join his cats from the cemetery at the Rainbow Bridge.

Mom wanted to stay longer at Hemingway’s House.  The house and grounds were fascinating and Walt Disney enjoyed showing mom around.                                                            awaltThe cats have a cat house that is a replica of Hemingway’s House.

acathouseShe had to say goodbye to Walt.  Dad was tapping his watch and saying they had other places to go on Key West before nightfall.

awaltdNotice Walt’s front paws…a true Hemingway cat.  Look real hard at Walt….think he has a stand in.

Off mom and dad went in their flame coloured Fiat.  Heading for the southernmost tip of the USA.                                                                    asouthtipThis is the best picture they could get of the buoy.  See all the tourists…mom says the tourists just kept coming.   The southernmost point was originally just marked with a sign, which was often stolen. In response to this, the city of Key West erected the now famous concrete buoy in 1983. The concrete buoy is actually an old sewer junction that was dug up in the area and found too heavy and large to move, so it was painted up to look like a buoy.  It is 81 nautical miles straight south to Cuba.  The buoy says 90 but its inaccurate.                                                          asmhzm    The Southernmost house in the USA.  Mom said all you can really see are lots of palms around the house.

They drove through the Truman Annex.  How the American government acquired this land from the people is in much debate….even today.  It is worth googling the Truman Annex my friends.  Much of the Truman Annex today is privately owned.                                                                     aa3

The houses are beautiful and most of them are Townhouses.  For mom the main attraction was the Little White House.

alwhTruman’s White House in Key West was the winter White House for President Harry Truman for 175 days during 11 visits. The house is located in the Truman Annex neighborhood of Old Town.

The Little White House was the end of their visit to Key West and it was time to take the Fiat and vacate this Key.

For the next three hours, which were uneventful….dad drove and mom sipped on her free Cokes from Coca Cola Headquarters and stared at the same scenery going back up the Keys.  You can imagine the bathroom breaks!  There were no pictures.  I think mom fell asleep but she denies it.  Finally they stopped on Marathon Key.  There are no pictures as it was as black as…mom’s…um…can’t say that….black as her camera!

Finally they piled out at the Yellowtail Inn.  This Inn was fantastic….individual cabins that had a view that looked  out on the Atlantic, except it was dark and they couldn’t see anything but what was directly in front of them.                                                                     aviewThe inside looked like this:                                            aytThey quickly grabbed some food and had a slice of Key Lime Pie….seeing as they were here on a Key.  They quickly went off to bed at 10pm to get up at 3:30am.  I  can just see mom settling down for the night.  All of a sudden there was a kkkkkfupclack, kkkkkfupckack….on went the light and they soon discovered it was the fridge talking to them.  They figured they could sleep through that so turned off the lights.  The lights came back on…by themselves….went off and then stayed on for a few minutes.  Hmmm….they fell asleep but mom says she was restless as was dad because between the lights coming on and off and the fridge making ghastly noises….it was most unsettling to say the least.   So they got up at 3am and left….both very tired but they had to get to Miami Airport by 7am.  The room looked nice but it was haunted and not by happy tourists.

Finally, they made it to the airport.  In to the rental company  went the Fiat.  Mom and dad sat like statues at their gate for hours.  Dad always likes to be real early.                                                               ajetThere’s their plane.  Delta’s headquarters is in Atlanta and that’s where mom and dad were headed, change planes and off to Seattle, change planes again and off to Vancouver, Canada.

This is my favourite part cause they visited with Nellie while in Vancouver…my mentor.                                                                       nellie2Then it was a prop plane to Prince George and home!

Would you say these two have had enough of travelling for the year?                                 appb  MOL…what a sight!                                                                             appjMOL  These are actually mom and dad’s passport photos but they looked like this when they walked in the front door after their trip.  I tell you it isn’t fair.  They looked way better when they left for vacation.  Now, mom looks like she wants to beat up dad. MOL

I don’t know why they go away, we’re all that matter and we’re so handy.                                                                         kalimedalsmThis is the loudest comforter I’ve seen in our house and mom loves it…..turn it over to the grey side mom.                                                                              Kali and Shoks

Trippin’ On The Keys

Mom and dad waved ‘so long’ to Miami and headed past the airport….again.  I guess all roads lead towards the airport.  This time heading down the Keys.

miamist                               miamibeachsmmaimisunsetsmThey started out at 7am so they could reach Key West in plenty of time to see the sights before driving halfway back to Miami to catch the plane at 8am the next day.

kalicroppedWhat, they went past the airport, again?  How boring…I’m glad I wasn’t there.

Dad put on his GPS but the entire way down the Keys was straight.

They went over bridges to the next Key.  In the distance was the old bridge.  The old bridge looked very well-built and all of a sudden a section would be gone…                                                                             oldb1      The picture with the section missing has mom’s reflection on the glass so we chose not to use that one.

There first stop was for lunch and a look about on Key Largo.                                               cafe I never saw a Bail Bond place that also had a private investigation agency in it.

bbHey, I can’t see a private investigation agency!

closeMuch better viewing.  Mom said she was terribly impressed.  They finished up and were on the road again.

They finally arrived at Key West….mom was ready to strangle someone….she is not the sitting patiently type.  She wanted to go to Hemingway’s House and see all of the polydactyl cats.  Dad was cursing at the peeps pedaling their bikes, driving mopeds and just plain walking all over the road.  They needed a break.

Mom said seeing all the 6 toed kitties would be all the break they needed.                                                      a31A peep gathering.

Mom and a cat by the name of Walt Disney hit it off and walked the grounds together.

catwalt       Walt walked mom around to the cat cemetary.  All the cats have at least 6 toes, some have 7 toes.  All the cat occupants of Hemingway House have names of famous peeps.

cemetaryHere is the list at the cemetery of kitties that have left Hemingway House for good.  They all earned their wings and have gone to kitty hunting/playing grounds..

The second half of this post will pop up Monday.  This post seems to be rather wordy for mom so she’s giving everyone time to absorb the info.                                            Kali and Shoks

Till Monday.

Skimming Through The Everglades

walkmiamiMom and dad had allotted  3 days to see all the sights in Florida.  They had spent most of their holidays living it up in Georgia.  One day had gone and so it meant our travellers had two days to see what they could.                                                                            shokszmcropMom and dad quickly got outta Miami and headed for anywhere else!  They drove past the airport a couple of times and both admired the size of the airport.   At this point dad decided to use the GPS as they  wanted to see something different.  Makes sense…go for it dad.  So he asked mom where she wanted to go.  Mom decided she wanted to go on an air boat ride through the Everglades and look at the wildlife.  Dad thought this was a cool idea so off they flitted in their rented Fiat.                                                              a4smExcitement went through the car at the unique sign.  They hadn’t seen a sign like this before.  No crocs though…except for mom…MOL  They must be getting close…

There it is!!  Gator Park.    Kinda touristy.  Off they went to act like the tourists they were.                                                                  a3zmThey both got t-shirts that had an alligator on the front and said, “Bite Me.”

There’s the air boat they rode in.

airboatWhoa, this is some kind of boat!!  Bet its fast.

a3smOh my!!  Hope there aren’t any snakes….I hate snakes!  Slimy, cold thingies.

allie2smMom is sorry for the blurriness of the picture but she got excited and didn’t take time to focus properly.  At least she’s honest about her screw ups.                                                            aaa2These are Mr. Google’s water lilies.  Mom could not get a picture close enough to show the detail in the lilies.  These water lilies only open half way…they never completely open and only grow in the deepest part of the water.

azmBig bugg…guy!  Apparently these brutes live for 30 to 50 years.

a2

Mom said she really liked this waterfall and after the boat ride was very relaxing.                                                                         alsm       You looked way better before the air boat ride mom and dad!  Holy cwap, this seeing different locations looks hazardous to one’s health.

Here mom have a mint julep, it will eliminate the vapours you seem to have…..very badly.                                                           aaaThere you have it.  Day two in Florida is coming to a close.  They have one more day…what will they do?  We’ll see next installment my friends.                                                         Kali and Shoks

Florida Here They Come…..Watch Out!

A happy looking gentleman.

Dad is waiting in the Atlanta airport.  Where’s mom?  OK dad, what did you do with her?

Aww..there’s mom…rarin’ to go I see!

mom1

It’s onward to Miami….it’s Florida mom.                                                           miamifli
The flight took about 2 hours and these two were planting their feet in Florida soil. Right away they learned peeps seemed crazy here. They all seemed to need a brush up on how to drive a vehicle. The first one to get a lesson would be the cab driver. After a ride that scared the cwap outta them they were at the hotel on Miami Beach. Immediately they headed for the boardwalk and then the beach.
boardwalk
They wanted to dip their toes in the Atlantic….the Pacific had their whole bodies but the Atlantic could have their toes only.
mom2
This time mom looks like she’s telling that little girl where the monkey lands in the buckwheat. The little girl looks scared.                                                             zoomedbrightshok

My good cod, you do take a lousy picture mom. MOL

After scaring small children, mom called it a day and retired to the hotel.  Dad decided to keep her company.  She may be odd but she sure isn’t boring.                                                                    skylinem Have a great weekend my friends.

Kali and Shoks

Good-bye Is Such a Hard Word to Say

You sure that everything is in your bag? Don’t forget anything Bashful.  We loved your visit and you are leaving with two great friends.  Willow and Sky take good care of each other and enjoy Georgia.  It’s never cold like here and Bashful’s mom said she’d help you become a Rocky Herbalist, Sky.                                                        rocks and thingsMom and dad will drive you to the airport.  Have a safe flight my friends.  Aww…Sky wipe away that tear.  We’ll talk and mom says they’ll be going down that way in the winter.  You haven’t seen the last of us.                                                          There they go Kali, winging their way to Georgia.  I feel kinda sad. *Waves at the plane*                                                             C’mon Shoks let’s get some nip and relax.  I could chase you around the house Kali.  No, thank you Shoko.  Maybe when you learn to retract those claws.                                                     Hey, Cow-Kitty move over.  Two sad gals comin’ through.  I hope this works Kali.
