The next day these five didn’t waste time but got into Phenny’s Elephant Skate and for an elephant it was one compact elephant and they headed toward the Atlantic, It was a long ride of about three hours. Mom wasn’t used to sitting for so long anymore and kept getting sleepy. Phenny helped with that…he told her things about his mom and dad that had mom wide awake. He said his mom was renting herself out as a part-time carpenter and her dad was taking dancing lessons. Mom was fascinated. Is mom ever gullible! Geesh! MOL They all arrived safely in Normandy The little house we were renting was a beauty.
There were even 3 bedrooms so we could um and awe about which room we could have.
Unpacked we headed for Omaha Beach. This quaint house marked the start of Omaha Beach.
The only words mom understood were Omaha Beach, camping and tennis.
While waiting mom sat on the Oceanic Kayaks. She got up, heard a snap and landed on her face like a sack of hammers. That was a boo boo and she was determined though the knee hurt, it would not slow her down…ya right! She never got down to Omaha Beach to find a used shell for a remembrance. It’s probably against the law anyway.
Katty and mom made their recipe for Shopping Around The World….Salmon fish cakes. Phenny was an enormous help. If you want to read the Salmon Fish Cake Recipe….just click on the name.
We all decided to visit the Canadian cemetery and leave a couple of Canadian flags and candles with covers to guard against the rain.
Phenny and Flat Shoko left their blessings for those that had fought for their freedom.
Thank you fellow Canadians…your efforts are so appreciated. I wonder if cats helped the men like in World War 1?
Mr. Phenny’s dad took mom and dad for a drive through Normandy for a look at the different architecture of the houses. Mom says this big house looks very official so perhaps its being used as a museum.
Too soon it was time to go back to Paris and catch the train. They left early and arrived in Paris around noonish. Mom was very overcome saying good bye to Katty and Phenny. Phenny’s dad helped carry suitcases into the station. Mom and dad thank you so much for the unforgettable visit with such fabulous peeps and of course, the one and only Da Phenny.
It was time to get on the Eurostar train and head for London from Gare du Nord. The Eurostar goes 200 MPH. It took about 2 hours to fly the rails to London. They spent a total of 20 minutes in the Chunnel.
Mom and dads last view of Paris from the rails. Isn’t this the Metro mom?
Next installment mom and dad set their paws on London cement.
Wonderful post, I am thoroughly enjoying your travels 🙂 I was very sorry to hear about Mom’s knee though and I do hope she is fully recovered. (I hate falling over)
We looked at the salmon fishcake recipe, although my girls were more interested in the salmon part…also Charlie tells me that 50, 000 cats helped in the First World War, serving on Navy ships to help keep down mice and rats. Loved the remembrance picture, well all the photos actually, and can’t wait for the next instalment! 🙂 xxx

Accidents happen…it’s the way we handle them that matters. Mom was more interested in her friends and skipped over her knee as much as possible. Many cats also served with the men to clean the mice and rats out of the trenches.

So interesting, Skokolino! That rentred house looks so nice, was it near the Atlantic? They drove by train under the see, were they afraid there?

The house was quite close to the Atlantic but not walking close. The whole visit was very historical and so sad to think so many young peeps died before they ever really started living. Mom and dad weren’t scared in the Chunnel just overwhelmed with the mom’s ingenuity.

Fun to spend time with Phenny’s peeps. That had to be an emotional visit to the Canadian Cemetery. The house/museum is gorgeous, I can’t get over how green it is over there. So enjoying your pictures.

Mom was struck by the grasses greenness too. When they left Prince George there was still snow on the ground and the odd piece of brown grass. The visit made mom’s imagination to work overtime….imagining all the families that were heartbroken and devastated by the loss of their sons and boyfriends. She became misty-eyed in spite of this happening over 70 years ago. War is no good for anyone!
