Have you known any black cats, Kali. I mean like good friends with a black cat. I sure have Shoks. In the old house just after I moved in with mom and dad I wandered across our street and met our neighbour. His name was Gauge and he was as black as your face Shoko. We struck up a friendship and I would lie with him under the apple tree on his front lawn. One day as we were playing around, I laid on my tummy. I had a fair bit of kitten flab left on my bod and was what one may call, “Chunky.” I would be horrified if one called me *chunky* to my face. Anyway as I lay on the lawn Gauge danced around me and rolled me across the lawn. There was a slight incline on the lawn and pointed in the right direction, I would roll down. Each day was good for a roll from Gauge till we both grew up and I was a little heavy for him to roll. Still we would sit on my front porch or under his apple tree.He sounds like a cool dude, Kali. Is he still living there? Mom and dad went to visit Gauge’s dad in the hospital a few weeks ago. Gauge’s dad was losing his battle with cancer. Gauge’s dad passed two weeks ago. Mom and dad were upset and wondered what would happen with Gauge. It turned out that Gauge was provided for in his dad’s will. Gauge and his dad’s best friend had a special relationship and Gauge has gone to live with him on a farm just outside Prince George. *sniff*, *sniff*, *wipes a tear from her eye*. Geez Kali, that is so sad. Part of it is sad but can you imagine the love that Gauge’s dad had for Gauge, to actually have a legal will drawn up to include Gauge!
Now, that’s true love, Kali. If everyone could see black cats in the same light as we do, there would be no problem. Layla’s book on black cats will certainly help their plight.
I’m so sorry for Gauge’s daddy… but I’m so glad his dad was prepared for the worst case what sadly happened and Gauge can stay with a friend…. it’s hard enough to lose the human you loved…..
Easy,
Mom was quite fond of Cliff, Gauge’s dad. Her nephew had lived in the apartment in Cliff’s basement when he went to university for 2 years. Cliff was into rhythm and blues and mom’s nephew would jam with Cliff and his friends. I know that Gauge misses Cliff like crazy as I would my dad or mom but a special bond with Cliff’s friend is giving Gauge a second chance.
So lovely story, it made me cry. A story of friendship and love.
I am almost black, and I am a good guy.
Have a day full of sunshine!
Kosmo,
a cat in faraway Finland.
What a sweet story about Gauge and Kali playing in the yard……..and we’re sorry Gauge’s Dad has passed away but what an incredibly thoughtful thing to have made sure his beloved cat had a home to go to when he died. I’m sure you miss Gauge as he sounds like a special friend. We hope Miss Layla’s project is able to be done as it will be a wonderful tribute to the awesome black kitties of the world.
Gauge was indeed very special. Kali trusted him completely and he never let her down. There must be many black cats like Gauge as we knew how wonderful he was but until now never had the forum to tell folks. Miss Layla’s project will be wonderful for all black cats.
SCREEE! What a cute kitten you were!!! I wish you had a pic with Gauge. It must have been cool to have a cat furrend like him. I’m sorry he lost his human.
Thanks CK. Gauge was one fun guy. He never was boorish like Cow Kitty is with Shoko. I was a very friendly kitten and always have liked everybody so Gauge and I would go for walks together…..not far though. I would only walk any distance with mom and my sister at the time, Keeko. Mom didn’t take many pictures back then and she would never have guessed Gauge would roll me. MOL Memories!
Gauge sounds like a pawsome friend. We’re glad his Dad made sure he was taken care of but sad that he lost his Dad.

Cwap! I was so choked up I could barely make a *mew* sound. Goes to show us all that black cats are as loveable and fun as any of us cats.
Great to see you three, Raz, Allie and Ellie

Hey Kosmo, Yep, you have some black in your coat so you’re half and half. Shoko has black points so you both have an idea of the power of black.

The relationship between these two was very special. You don’t hear about many men that have such a deep love for a cat.
