Here it is another Shopping Around the World hosted by Piglove and Fozziemum. This week we can make anything our little pea pickin’ hearts desire.
Kali stood up and said she wanted to be the celebrity chef from Fort Meezer, for this dish.
Hello my friends. My dish today will be Greek Potatoes
Let’s hear it for Greek Potatoes…..*smashes plate by throwing it at the wall.* “OPA!!” hehe Do you know where the Greek custom of smashing glasses and plates stems from? MOL…Stems…glasses…MOL Opa!! *smash*Me-wow
Greek tradition has it that this practice started when a rich family invited a much poorer family to dinner and to make them feel better invited them to break the plates. They were proving that friendship is everything. And there’s no better way of proving that than dining with friends over Greek food.
Without further Αντίο ( adieu in Greek) our main course for the day:
Greek Potatoes
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons & 2 teaspoons olive oil
Terra Delyssay 750ml…..$7.99
3/4 cup water …free
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
Elephant Garlic….$4.48 Lb.
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
we use Real Lemon as it’s not as strong as the fresh lemon

1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
out of garden
1 cube chicken bouillon
60 grams $2.99

Before introducing the Greek Potatoes to the oven.

Hi fishy friends,
You know I never even thought about Einstein before I put my get up on. He’s a big guy he can handle it.
Kali says its nice to know she could pass for a Greek man anytime….a rather furry Greek man. MOL
The recipe is easy. That’s what mom likes.

Hi Kali, you’re welcome to come and cook for the palace, anytime, especially as we have plastic and paper plates. Your potatoes sound really cool too… could I substitute nip for the rosemary do you think? purrs ERin

I’d love to stop by your palace with my wares! Something tells me it would be a long walk and even longer if Shoko tagged along. We’d be stopping to check every mole hill or junky area for mice.
I never thought of substituting the rosemary for nip….first class idea ERin. I’ll see if mom will try this taste delight the next time Greek Potatoes are on the menu.

That looks delicious! I bet the same thing could be done in the crock pot (you know my mommy always rush-rush-rush to work). It would be wonderful to come home to at night. I’m off to look for some potatoes now. Thanks my sweet friends! Opa! XOXO – Bacon

Great idea to use the crock pot…only problem is that the sauce won’t evaporate so you may get soggy potatoes. Let me know cause I could do it this way too.

Kali dear, you are an excellent cook, you know the Greek traditions, but Shoko seems to be in Turkey as a belly dancer. Your mom has a stunning imagination.
See you!

Thank you Kosmo. Greece is an interesting country. Turkey and Egypt are well known for their belly dancing but all through the Middle Eastern countries one can see belly dancing. Maybe the cats in Greece are the only ones that belly dance…MOL

Oh yum! Those ‘taters sound delish! AND I can throw plates around while Mom is cooking it and have an excuse to make a mess (I love that part especially). As for that belly dancing outfit Shoko – I wonder what Einstein will say after he recovers from fainting.

You could use whatever potatoes you want. New potatoes have a better flavour right out of the garden and you’d waste that flavour as the potatoes pick up the flavour of the garlic and herbs. You know, the next time your mom breaks a dish just yell, “Opa!” I have thought if one is going to break dishes and glasses, one should invest in chinet plates and plastic glasses. It would be cheaper.

Fresh taters are delish. When mom lived in the mobile home and the landlord said digging in the lawn was forbidden, she got a deep container and grew 5 potatoes in it. Fresh potatoes didn’t last long but at least it was a taste of them….she hadn’t had fresh taters for 10 years. She thinks she liked those the best cause it was difficult to get everything by herself. Just sayin’

Dat sounds really cool Kali. Mommy’s never really had a fresh tater. Oh da ones at da grocery store come from da ground cuz lots of times they still had dirt on ’em, but mommy hadn’t grown ’em herself. They be too ‘spensive to buy these days. Ifin mommy could actually grow things like lettuce and taters and corn and such she would be eatin’ really good. MOL

Speaking of dirt, mom was at the grocery store and she wanted leeks. Leeks can be hard to grow so she was buying them. She noticed there was dirt between the layers of leek. This would mean one would have to keep removing layers till a good layer was discovered. She told the young boy that worked there. He said, “Well mam, they ARE grown in dirt!” Mom says she could have hit him she was so mad. MOL That would have been priceless. MOL

I had fun with the belly dancing outfit. Can you imagine what dinner will be like with me belly dancing throughout it. No, I don’t mean I’ll dance through the potatoes.

Love the outfit,Shoko and Kali,we must try those Greek potatoes. We had quite a day yesterday! We were in our carriers in the front seat with Mom .An unexpected curve came up suddenly and Mom lost control of the car.We went into the ditch and hit a tree.We are all fine, just a bit shaken.Fortunately, the car hit a tree while going backwards but it is totaled. We got out safely and had to ride in a tow truck.Unfortunately, the car was totaled We are back home now and staying close to Mom.

Oh my cat!! What a horrible experience. Ant accident is terrifying never mind one that tossed everyone in the ditch. Your little hearts must have taken off beating loudly. At least your mom was there and you were with her when you had to ride in the tow truck. It’s terrible the car was totaled….a shame. At least everyone is ok. Sending calming purrs to all your family.

I’m afraid our dishwasher has something misunderstood with that OPA thingy because it sometimes breaks a plate or cup. BTW, as for ‘friendship’ between rich and poor, have you seen this movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069235/? If you can find it somewhere, you should watch it, it is brilliant and unbelievably funny!

Mom looked up the movie and it sounds super with a great cast. She is going to try and find it in this city. We have 1 video store left in town….the others have disbanded…not enough business.
