What a yucky day….nothing but rain, rain and then more rain.
It’s just as well Shoko is off at the Cat Scout carnival today or she’d be wanting to play, “chase and bite butt.” I really don’t like that game but Shoko insists we should play it on rainy days.
In the past look at the toys I have been trying to entice Shoko with. She finally got all soft and kissed me instead.
Shoko didn’t want me to say anything to you but yesterday mom was so angry with Shoko that I thought mom would burst! It was a beautiful day here yesterday so mom opened the screen door to the deck, so Shoko and I could go in and out at will. There are no mosquitos or many flies so she thought it was safe. Mom was busy blanching some beans for freezing and Shoko came rushing in and headed straight for her condo, Mom saw Shoko throwing something in the air so went over to investigate. There lay a small bird, its heart just apounding. Mom hollered,”NO, NO, NO…get away!” several times. Mom doesn’t say no often so Shoko listened as mom picked up the little bird.
She put the wee one on a small dish and walked out on the deck. The bird quickly flew away. Mom breathed a deep sigh of relief.
This bird is an Immature Ground Finch and looks just like the bird Shoko had but it wasn’t as fat as this bird. Now, Shoko doesn’t jump for a bird so this bird must have been running around on the ground. This is also Shoko’s first bird….it took her 7 years to find one on the ground, I guess.
Now for my secret about Shoko. Shoko is afraid of the Cat’s Meow. You know, that fun toy. Mom brought it out of the cupboard where it was out of Shoko’s view. I was excited…..this is me being excited! MOL
Mom put the Cat’s meow in the living room for a week without turning it on. Shoko was sniffing it and sitting beside it. It was time to turn it on. Where’s Shoko? She’s behind the chesterfield poking her head out to watch it. MOL This is the big fierce hunter we’re talking about here!
Now, on to our Sunday Selfie. The Cat on My Head has a blog hop for all us anipals. Just hit the blog name and you’ll find yourself viewing other selfies. I love my box and nobody tries to take it away from me.

Seems Shoko learnt that from Easy…he is a berd-hunter too :o( No worries Shoko, some toys can be scary, I agree… I fear bubbles and I run away like the wind :o) Kali that’s a super selfie, boxes are great.. they can be a race car or a boat or a cave in our imagination :o)

Mom is not a happy peep when Shoko pulls these things but at least she doesn’t aim on killing them. Shoko can be such a wimp at times and other times she’s braver than the whold family put together. Go figure.

then she IS related with Easy…he has no problem to grab berds and toads and whatnot, but he runs away from soap bubbles ….

Bird hunting is tricky. I like to lunge at birds and scare them, but I don’t know what I’d ever do if I caught one! *shiver*

Mom whipped the bird away so fast, Shoko never got the chance to wonder what she’d do with it. She was still looking for it hours after mom had let it fly away home. Shoko was sayinf, Meeewwww, meewwwww and mom was answering. This is kind of a strange family,

Shoko! You caught a birdie? Well, I have only caught one birdie EVER in my 15+ years and Mom made ME drop it too. Darn. But in my later years I’ve learned to appreciate watching them fly around and hearing their songs……so I’m kind of glad Mom made me drop the bird way back then. Hope you enjoy your DAY TWO of the Carnival. Sending Sunday Hugs to you both!
Love, Sammy

I can’t imagine Shoks catching another bird for a heck of a long time, if ever. Shoks likes watching them too. I guess her devil side took over for awhile.

We’re impressed with Shoko’s hunting skills. Though how hard was it really to catch a bird already on the ground, right, Kali? 😉 You look great in your box, by the way.

My cats quickly learned how to defeat the “Cat’s Meow” toy, became bored with it, and it now decorates the top of a pile of toys the boys no longer play with. I bring it out once in awhile. They will play with it a little, but it never has been the toy the advertisement suggests it is for cats.

Really! Some cats just tear into it. Shoko will always be mesmerized by the Cat’s Meow if she doesn’t get closer. This is my hope….that she will one day hit the wiggley thing. I have taken a fair amount of used toys to the SPCA for them to use on kitties. I usually clean up the well slobbered on ones and throw out the furless mice…or keep them. Shoko seems to like mice without fur.

Glad that little finch escaped. That’s Cat’s Meow looks a bit creepy to us, too.

I think Shoko is very soft mouthed….she never kills what she catches. Just brings them home and deposits them to play with. Obviously Shoko and you would get along great.

I can imagine why that yellow thing scares you, Shoko, birds are much smaller than that meow…and you never know who’s inside of that… ghost 😀 Granny is happy your mom could set the bird free…*shakes head* they never understand 😉 Great the-box-is-mine Selfie, Kali 😀 Pawkisses 🙂 ❤

This is the first bird Shoko ever caught and myself, I don’t understand it. The bird must’ve run into her mouth cause she likes mousies too.

So Cat Scout Shoko is afraid of the Cat’s Meow. We think we best keep that a secret. Misty May is our bird catcher. She goes after those baby house finches as well, but she has caught bigger birds. Mom or Dad have saved a few through the years. The others usually end up with broken necks. It makes our humans very sad. Thanks for joining us for Sunday Selfies, Kali. Yes, I am afraid of it but I’m getting braver. Mom turns it on and I sometimes don’t hide behind the couch. I sitl 6 ft, away and stare at it for about an hour . I thought my staring would get it to stop but it doesn’t. Stupid thing!!
That wee bird ran into my mouth…honest!
I try to make it each Sunday but sometimes something has to go.
Hugs,
Shoko
