Harvest Weekend

Well friends, we have gotten down to the nitty gritty in the garden.  Beans, peas and beets must come out this weekend,  The squash must be picked or covered.  The temperatures are getting down to 2C tonight….that’s 35F.  We are urged to cover up the veggies.  The tomatoes will be covered tonight.  Mom’s bringing out the peas and beans now.  It will take more than today to take care of these so tomorrow will be another full day.  The veggie garden is starting to look like the end is near.

Look at those tomatoes!!

Look at those tomatoes!

Felix/Cow-Kitty was keeping a close eye on me and he is gorgeous.

We also have visitors from Cat Scouts.  The Flat Cats of King Meiko and Pete  showed up Wednesday.  We call them Fing Feiko and Fete to separate them from the real ones.  Kali is getting along great with Fing Feiko and Fete.

Geesh, his butt doesn’t smell at all mom…he must be very clean!  Wish I smelled that blah.  Go stick him in the nip mom…then he’ll smell of something.

DSCN3825Fete and Kali had a chat about the necessity of boxes in their lives.

I hate to admit it but I was scared of Fing Feiko and Fete.  Even when they smell like the nip.

That’s right, not even Felix was afraid of Fing Feiko.  I’m embarrassed.  He’s all the way from Texas and I won’t stand still when he’s around.  Anybody got any suggestions?

What a garden! Everything sounds so yummy!!
We cooled off today, it was nice, but the wind was not. The fires in Washington are to the south east and south west of us, its really scary. Grand Forks has an Evacuation warning. Purhaps wes should flatten everybosy at our house and send them to yous!

We will be very busy this weekend in the garden. This is the hard part as everything needs doing all at once.
Glad you guys have cooled off some but, yore right, its dang scary and smelly with all the smoke. Imagine the peeps that are losing everything in Washington and elsewhere.
We’d love to have you guys up here flat or not. We don’t envy you and our hearts are with you. Last year was close enough for me and we didn’t have the fires as close as you do.

Wow, your weather turns cold fast. We hope to have our garden for quite a while longer. We plant a lot in tubs so we can bring them inside on cold nights to stretch the season.
    Felix is growing fast.

Yep, a definite disadvantage to living in the north. However, once we get 1 killer frost, the weather stays warm for a couple of months afterward. It shouldn’t be that cold to freeze everything tonight. We are almost right downtown so it should be warmer with all the building protection.

Is there really catnip bubble stuff at Walmart? I read the Kitten Diaries and the Catnip bubbles intrigued me. Mom quit blowing bubbles our way cause Kali got soap in her eye and was not happy with mom.

wow, seems fall says hell-o to CATnada :o) we have nothing what we can pick. our pear tree is a gremlin what lost the fruits before they were ripe so we only have to throw all pears in the trashcan :o( maybe the flat scouts can wear a hat, that they look funny? that sometimes can help to say hell-o to strangers :o)

Fall comes with a crash up here in the north. Mom hates that but its the way of this area. After a killer frost….it gets warm here for another 2 months. Wonder why your pear tree lost its fruit? Maybe it wasn’t pollinated by another pear tree. I’m learning these things from mom who goes running out to pollinate the squash, cukes and zukes. She is the squash pimp and she’s good at it too. A pear hat? I think to stick a pear on my toque would be awesome. No one else around here has a pear on their toque.

Hi my friends, I worked hard on the garden watering fertilizing and airing out the soil. Ok, I accidently threw some beet seeds into the carrot patch during a wild witches dance. These things just happen. The beets are still there just over a bit…MOL Cow-Kitty is our neighbour but mom wants him to come and live with us cause he is out at all times of the night. So far, we don’t want him and he doesn’t seem to keen on the idea. Kitties 1…Mom 0
I tell you these flat cats are scary! There is no cat to them. Mom gets up in the middle of the night hoping I’m asleep so she can take a picture of me and the flat cat. However, I always wake up and hide when I hear her coming. MOL

I would love tyo show you Dezi. I taught my nephew how to can and he helped me every year. Boy, do I miss him. Bill is helping so I am not alone. I am very picky about keeping everything spotless. Bill thinks I’m a nag and altogether too picky for him. So we take turns. He handles the stuff that doesn’t need as much fussing over.
I’ll get Shoko interested some how…she just has to be different. Dang it!

Got 7 pints of tomatoes. They are in a hot water bath now for 35 minutes. Clean up and then that’s it for today. Cleaned, cut up and cooked a mess of beans for sweet and sour bean salad…3 kinds. Peas podded and frozen. Thanks Bill! Drying rose hips for rose hip tea.
It feels good to sit down.

Yep, it was quite cool last night. Our summers don’t last long but we sure enjoy them. The weather will warm again after it reaches 0 and kills everything. It wasn’t a killer last night. We covered the tender veggies just in case.

Looks like you had bumper crops of veggies in the garden this year……the season is wrapping up around here too – our tomatoes are TIRED. As for the Flats…..you girls are showing everyone a great time….even if you, Shoko, are a little wary of some flat travelers!

Many veggies will be going to St. Vincent’s to help the street people. There are way too many potatoes for us.
Fing Feiko sneaked into the bedroom last night and mom got a picture of him with Kali and me.

Human mom misses her garden… It just a plastic covered dirt pile waiting for “one day” to arrive. I too was going to suggest rubbing your scent on it, but it may be too late if just looking at it makes you run now. Good luck with that! =^,,^=

A garden is a pile of work…just ask mom who is wondering why she grew so much stuff…now that its harvesting time. MOL

I am getting used to Feiko now…I even sniffed him. Of course, mom didn’t have the camera.
