Produce From Our Garden

I’ll bet you wondered what happened to us.  We haven’t posted for awhile.  Mom has been busy with harvesting the veggies.  Well, all this warm weather has had a great effect on the veggie garden.  The peas, chard and beet greens are being frozen for the winter.    Beets have been frozen and 2 bags of peas.  This took quite the amount of time.  We had to pick the peas, shell them and divide the older peas from the tender ones.  Granted mom and dad did most of this but I walked through the garden with her.  Just so she didn’t mess up the veggies.

What have we been doing while mom and dad are steaming their faces off with the veggies?  It has turned cool here so our pool has disappeared.  No more fun with the pool.  Dad cut our catnip wwwway back and hung the stalks from the ceiling of the deck.  Mom will pack the leaves and buds away for our relatives at Christmas.  This is still what mom and dad are doing but Kali and I helped  with these chores.  I sat in the middle of the catnip and yelled in perfect Niponese,”NO!! Not our nip!”  Dad didn’t listen but said my voice was very forceful.

No!  Down came the nip.  Mom said there is another full month of summer, at least, and I’ll be chewin’ on nip again this summer.  Nice tender nip too.  I like the sound of that mom.  Remember that Flat Einstein and Timmy are coming for a visit from Pennsylvania in August.

Kali has not been up to much.  She keeps using her stairs in the bedroom.  Looking all smug and happy.  Today I showed her what I could do with the stairs.

I just wanted Kali to see that I was no longer afraid of the stairs.  My point made, I left to help outside.

Kali went into the living room and covered herself while laying on the love seat.

I was not in as much demand as I thought so I headed out to the greenhouse.  Kali and I spent the rest of the afternoon resting up.

Hope your day was as mellow as yours.

Wow, Shoko, you had a very full day. No wonder you were tired. Glad to see you pushed your boundaries and did the stairs, too. Kali is quite clever to cover herself like that. Makes me sleepy just looking at her. *yawn* Oh, I meant to ask, is there such a thing as “dog” nip? Y’all seem to enjoy your “cat” nip so much!

Kali sure knows how to be comfortable. She digs under the blankie and then turns around under the blankie until its just right. Dog nip? Good question Lexi. You and Noodle could have a great time if there were dog nip but I don’t think there is anything like cat nip. Actually, it would be scary if a grat huge dog got on nip and went all hairy….you’d need 2 men and a boy to stop the dog.

OMD! Look at all that nip! I’m proud of you for conquering those stairs. Personally, the little stairs we had for Mya freaked me out! Don’t tell anyone though, ok? It was nice to read a post from you guys. *ear licks* Noodle

Those stairs were haunting me..I’m so happy I walked on them. They are no longer scary. You know exactly where I’m coming from Noodle. It made me feel good that you had those same feelings.

Really? If you guys want some nip, its yours. Just send mom your address and we will send some to you.
Yep, mom and dad are eating chard…no, I won’t send any. Some is frozen and the rest would go rotten on the way down. If you can think of a way to get it to you…we sure would.

Mom has been bringing stuff in from her garden too — tomatoes, cucumbers, crookneck squash and both hot and sweet peppers. I hope she’s not planning on messing with my catnip like that!

how great that that you are no longer afraid of that stairs, yay for Shoks, the hero :o) we have not much to do in our garden, our pears are “self-harvesters”, they all fall down as small as nuts, because the tree is from pleistocene and probably to old to waste it’s time with a gazillion of pear-puppies :o)

That is a very mellow day, S. Walking around the garden with the humans is important work. They should never be allowed outside alone. They’re too unpredictable.

You got that right Cupcake. They look like they’re interested in beets and all of a sudden take a deep look into the cauliflower. I want to shout out, “It’s no where near ready so get those fat little fingers off that gorgeous plant.” One must be alert when accompanying peeps.

Barks! It’s hard supervising and takes a lot of work. I know I’ve felt the pressure this week while Bacon is gone. You Sholo are doing an absolute job there too. I hope Kali feels better. Save some carrots for Bacon – barks ❤ Houdini

Hi Houdini, I’ll bet the pressure to be a happy host for the blog is getting through to you. Bacon does such an awesome job but guess what…you are pretty darned good yourself. You’ve always made me feel welcome at your blog, Houdini. Kali is feeling a bit better these days but the weather is quite cool so she’s not interested in going out.

Aaww. Shuffles paws. Thank you so much my kind sweet friend. I’m trying really hard to keep Bacons blog up to his caliber. I don’t blame Kali for not wanting to go out in the cold. I don’t like the cold either. ❤️ Houdini

The harvesting begins! Mom is usually busy for most of the summer now. There is always something she has to do and should have done it sooner. The nip is an essential plant in any garden as far as Kali and I are concerned. If, you don’t grow nip…why even bother with a garden? You know what I mean Dezi. Big hugs to Lexi from Kali and I.

Hey Sammy, We have been busy but not so much now. Kali is supervising. Believe me she is one picky dudette. We sure have a lot of squash coming along. This is going to be funny when mom tries to use as much as possible before putting the rest away for winter. It’ll be squash everything. I can see mom telling dad…”Oh its the new thing to have, beef shaped squash.” I can just see dad’s expression. MOL

*waves paws* Good to see ya my buds. Hoomins are very time consuming. They are a little slow, even the best of the bunch so we have to guide them to the conclusion we want. The nip seems to make all this splainin’ worthwhile.

Yes, it is busy. I wonder if there is a way to dehydrate or keep sprigs of tarragon, sage etc. I wonder if freezing would do the trick? I love a stew with sprigs of winter savoury, rosemary and tarragon all tied together and pitched in the stew. Oh my, it is so delicious.

CK, I think there is a law against it my friend! You reminded me of my younger days at Furry Feline U. Otherwise known as FFU. I studied the finer points of the Cat Criminal Code. There was a particular statute involving catnip. I’m not sure now if it was giving it away or for financial gain. Thanks for reminding me. I will delve into my notes.

*waves to Dharth* You’re right about fresh nip Dharth…it is way better than the dried stuff. The dried stuff is good during the winter cause we don’t have a choice. The garden is starting to wind down now. Mom is grabbing whatever is ripe and preparing it for winter.

    Loves ya cuz.

Keep after her Dharth! The best time is to plant now until the end of September. Can Ladymum afford the seed…if not I’ll take a peek in my gardening bag and see what we have leftover. We always love to share with our friends.

Darth…I will look this evening when we go to hear our story. I know I ran across some cat grass that had never been opened. It’s got your name on it, if you want it. Peeps tend to give mom cat grass for us…its very thoughtful of them but I don’t like it and drag the pot of grass around the house for fun in the winter. Of course, it gets spilled and mom is not happy so cat grass is a very low requirement for us.
I’ll tell you tomorrow what’s floating around my gardening bag.

Your mom can plant the spearmint and try spearmint tea. If mom was closer she would visit for a cup of tea. If she doesn’t like it, she can always get rid of it. That’s what my mom would do. No, we don’t have your mailing address. That would help a lot. Mom will write the address down in our special book.
