Belated Happy Canada Day

Wednesday Canada turned 148.  That’s almost 149.  This reminds mom of the ad for Woodward’s.  ♫$1.49 day , Woodward’s. $1.49 day, Tuesday.♫  Now, only those in Western Canada will know what mom’s talking about, like Nellie from The Cats from Hell’s mom.  This little jingle came out in April of1958 and was very popular.  Look at the shoppers on this $1.49 day.  Notice the housewives going for a bargain.

Woodwards $1.49 day

Canada Day was very hot here and us northern cats and peeps are not used to hot weather for any length of time.  So we really suffer.  Give us ice, snow and freezing rain….these we don’t like but can handle.  So Kali and I flopped around  sighing.

Ok, I flopped and Kali was prissy as usual.

Mom and dad took off for the big park here in Prince George.  It was Fort George Park but now is Memorial Park because some ancient bones of aboriginals have been discovered in the park….in various locations.  Making the park a native burial resting ground and thus sacred for all natives.

Both mom and dad are extremely interested in other cultures and want to participate.   They got  a chance to get Turbans made for them by Sikhs at the park.    Making up these turbans is quite the effort.  However, the Sikh men and women doing the work were fast and so polite and nice.  Mom didn’t realize there were different styles of turbans but she noticed at least 4 different styles right there at the booth.

Jean in turban2                                                                  Bill turbanDon’t they look awesome!  We wanted turbans too.  So mom gave us  each our own turbans.  What do ya think?

The turbans in the park were gathered and neatly wrapped around the head in several layers.  This was done for free by the Sikhs.  In order to show their lifestyle.  Mom and dad were told that while they wore the turban, they could not use profanity, drink or smoke and not eat meat.  Obviously words they live by.

A sign on the tent of the Sikhs at the park:  “Keep calm and put your turban on.”    Words to live by.

Shoko and I discussed Artsy Day and Selfie Sunday and I got Artsy Fartsy Day blog hop.   So here is the link to Athena and Marie at their blog hop.  I am submitting me with my orange turban as art.

Selfie Sunday belongs to me.  I shared with Kali and now its my turn to show everyone my turban on The Cat On My Head”s Blog Hop.  Merely click on the fabulous hosting blog and you can view all my other Selfie buddies.

Are you near Maine? Where are you folks? Maybe you are actually Canadians in disguise and live in Newfoundland. Maybe not…they talk funny there. Mom has a Newfie friend and we don’t understand him.

Oh Wes Remembers the $1.49 day song!!!
Simpsons Sears used to has $1.49 day too and her Mommy used to goes and buys clothes. Mommy and her sisters would dance and sing the song as they tried on the new clothes. Mommy and Daddy both has native ancestors. Mommy’s Great Grand Father was a Nuxal (from Northern BC on the Coast) Daddy’s was way back and was a guide for Henry Hudson.
Mes must say, yous guys looks really great in your Turbans! And Belated Canada Day!!!
    Kisses

A turban would be great…just pull it down over your ears. It scared us when the fireworks went off for the 1st of July. Mom timed the noise. Just 15 minutes. It felt like 15 hours to us.

Mom said the men that were putting the turbans on had a mister for the turbans as they are hot. We think they should be soaked in water and then wrapped around the head.
In the park is a small cemetery for the natives. This little park, until recently, was thought to be the cemetery for the natives. Not so! Apparently the park itself was used. The natives are mostly of the Carrier Tribe. The natives I have met from the Carrier Tribe…..at least the ones on the reserve….are big….like huge, with flattened noses. A very distinctive people….not to mention frightening. I know that sounds awful but these have been my experiences. I’m unsure of the clan and I also would like to know more as I always thought that burial grounds for natives were sacred and you wouldn’t want a horde of people walking all over these sacred grounds. Perhaps the city will erect a sign that tells us more about these grounds. The discovery of these bones happened within the last 2 months so the city needs time.

      Hugs,

Oh that’s interesting… I hope they will find out more about the peeps who lived there many many moons ago… I wish I would be there, I’m a bone-expert… butt I have some doubts if your city would hire a guy like me :o)

That would be cool to have the whole family over here! Alas, I believe you’re right as this is a small city and they would just fly someone in and then send them on their merry way after examining the bones. If, mom hears more about the bones she will let you know.

Lexi, thank you. We love, “The Cat in the Hat”. We had fun with the turbans but had to take them off before we had our beef Fancy Feast. No meat in that faith and we must abide by the rules of their faith.

Nope, no meat until the turbans came off. Mom said we must submit to the rules of the faith, just like mom and dad did. So we got Kali’s hypoallergenic Soy HP. Absolutely no meat. So I’m glad they’re off.

WOW, that was some sale. I’ve heard of Canada Day, but since we don’t live in Canada, we did not know it meant really good bargains. That’s awesome. Love your mom and dad’s turbons. They look good in them.

haha That was no Canada Day sale Mario. That’s funny. It was the $1.49 day sale at Woodward’s Dept Store. I said Canada is 149, which is close to 149 and this reminds mom of the $1.49 day sales at Woodwards. hehe Thanks for the giggle, I needed it.

Cuz…you are such a nice little dude! Mom says we must try and understand other peeps and kits…cause the more we understand the more patient we become towards others. I think Kali is a little prissy myself but she seems happy this way.

Sorry for the delay. Mom is being a wimp and floppin’ around in the heat like me. She isn’t airing out her private parts though…hehe Thank you for commenting on our turbans. This was fun. I think Kali and I look way better than mom and dad.
