Today started with Shoko singing at about 5:30am…mom hollered to be quiet Shoko. This didn’t deter Shoks as she began really singing loud a half an hour later. Mom got up checked the food, water and kit lit….all looked good so she went back to bed. However , after talking with Shoko and wandering around the house, she couldn’t get back to sleep so we all got up at 6:30am….thanks Shoko.
What a horrible morning. I was minding my own business watching Shoko walk through mom’s containers of flowers thinking, “What a dunce, she’s getting her feet and face all wet.”
Out comes mom looking all phoney happy and chattering a mile a minute. This means something is about to happen to one of us. I was secretly hoping it was going to be Shoko but no way, mom picked me up and remarked how heavy I was. I am not mom and don’t be so rude!
Oh no!! She took me to the carrier with the fluorescent orange blanket….not that I have a carrier without a florescent orange blanket. This trip will mean the vets. Mom was kind of upset because I have a tendency to get ingrown nails and when dad clipped my nails last time, the middle nail bled and I made a big fuss about it.
When we got to the vets they took us right away. This hardly ever happens so I didn’t see my friend Joan. The technician weighed me and I had lost one and a half pounds. So there mom…I’m not as heavy as I was before.
Dr. Bowman was our vet and I didn’t care for him. He kept poking around my nail so I growled at him a few times. I got to give him credit….he knew I was getting fed up and sped the exam along nicely. Turns out my nail was pretty good. He thinks I have arthritis in my front paws though. He gave mom some weird looking pills. You’re not giving those things to me!
The ride home was very quiet…I had nothing to say and mom was just glad that part was over.
We arrived home and Shoko was nowhere in sight. Mom called and called her…she was a no show. Then mom caught a glimpse of her….
Guess she was tired after getting us all up so early.
The capsule…well I smelled the contents of my food and I wouldn’t eat it. Shoko liked it though. Mom was having a dicky bird telling Shoko, “No, you don’t need that.” Next step…..spoon feed me the medicine and food. We’ll see if that works.
I’m laying out like Lady Muck and mom has a wee spoon with Fancy Feast beef on it and my med. I taste it and……make way, where’s the bowl of this stuff. It’s delicious! Mom is happy and I’m full.
Hey Shoko, you finally found the warm spot in the greenhouse! Good for you, Mom needs to be up at 5:30am. Dad

Oh Nellie!! Mom and dad don’t like cheez whiz (the only 2 peeps in the world that don’t like it) so we don’t have any. We’ll see what mom tries today. It’s interesting to do the taste test….MOL

Well Kali I’m glad your nail was OK – sorry about your arthritis – I have it too and it’s no fun. Glad that you will take your meds with Fancy Feast though! I won’t take mine with ANYTHING…..Mom keeps trying though – I have to give her credit for that!!! Shoko – the greenhouse looks like a great spot for a snoozie!
HAPPY CANADA DAY!

Thank you for the Happy Canada Day Sammy and Pam. Very nice. It’s a lovely Canada Day here.
I could have told mom that my nails were ok but she never listens to me about my health. I know I’ve lost weight cause when I see my face in the big bowl of water outside….my face is quite thin. I always had a fat face. The med for art in the rice is not that great Sammy but if mom spoon feds me….I giggle to myself and just have to eat it. She goes to so much trouble. MOL

It will be a struggle for mom and I but after awhile I should notice a difference. Getting up and jumping down on the floor hurt this morning.
Thanks for caring Ellen. You are a wonderful lady.

Yes, Happy Canada Day! It’s also my two cats’ fourth birthday, so today is a big day here!
Anyway, I don’t know if it is possible with the medicine you have to give you kitty, but I have to give Andy a blood pressure medicine. My veterinarian pulverizes the medicine and mixes it with tuna- or chicken-flavored water (I guess), kitty’s choice. It’s much easier giving a cat liquid in a syringe that a pill, though you still have to catch the cat! LOL!
I know how that goes putting medicine in food, too. My cats turned up their noses when I mixed a pulverized Lysine pill supplement in their food. Once I changed to a Lysine paste (manufactured in your country, coincidentally!), they finally accepted the treatment.

Hi Doug,
I think I may have struck upon a way to give it to her. Cheese! She loves cheese…yesterday I tried a slice of swiss cheese, folded with some water. What a god awful mess I made. However, Kali thought this was the cat’s meow and gobbled it up and licked the liquid…I’m sure the liquid tasted like cheese too with all my mucking about. We don’t like cheez whiz but apparently this is the way to go so I bought a little bottle and mixed the insides of the capsule in. Well, Kali thought she’d died and gone to heaven. The little plate was so clean. Usually these tricks work for awhile and then I have to actually get it down her. I will probably go the syringe route. You are so right….it’s much easier than trying to force a capsule down her throat.
Thanks Doug

Mom gives me Dasuquin for my joints. You can also get it for cats. Mom buys mine at Amazon. It’s a soft chew, and I barking love it! (We didn’t see the soft chews for cats but there are some other things that looked kinda yummy.)She tried cutting down my dosage like the bag said to do and my back leg joints started hurting, but now that I get it every morning again, no more pain. I’m just thinking, if you could find something that Kali really likes, it would make both your lives easier!

Oh Lexi…that would be the answer. Kali is a sneaky little thing….not unlike moi. Mom says she can’t thank you enough. It is definitely an alternative. Kali is also barfing but the meds don’t seem to come up, just water and sometimes a fur ball. Yuck! Do we have to tell them that….it’s gross. Ya, I think you got the idea across.
