What a day!  It’s been work, work and then some more work!  We have changed the bed and done the washing.  I tidied up the kitchen after mom threw potato salad fixin’s on the floor.  Good Cat, she’s so messy!  I never get a moment’s peace when she decides to do some food preparation.  No, I didn’t take a picture of her mess…I was busy cleaning it up.

We then moved outside to do more planting.  After today we only have the corn and cauliflower to plant.  Everything looks good.

One of the green peppers..note the green peppers growing

Mom’s pride and joy are her dollar store hanging baskets.

2 Pails and some rope...thats what makes up the hanging baskets.

Notice the cukes and squash.  Against the brown fence are Russian Potatoes and along the back fence are Russian Banana Potatoes.  The Russian Potatoes are purple through and through.  The Russian Banana Potatoes are like Fingerling Potatoes as they don’t grow big but are about the size of a gian’ts fingers or bananas.

Your mom throws things too Dharth? It’s a terrible habit of theirs….really. I wouldn’t mind it if it was good stuff she throws but onions and other veggies…yuck! Kali could be prayin’ for the veggies to grow…that’s nice of you to have her back Dharth. I’m unsure if this new food is agreeing with her….she’s talking at mom more than usual and believe me that’s a lot. We shall see. I like it but Kali is walking away after eating just a bit. Mom is going to try the Fancy Feast tomorrow.

Our mom throws food on the floor too and then she gets upset for doing it. Some stuff is harder to clean up. We can’t quite figure out the humans. We hope your plants grow. Love,Cali, Andy, Tater & Shelly (C.A.T.S)

I don’t understand mom either. She is so careful not to waste food and then she has a heck of a good time dropping food…I swear she’s throwing it. She is rather disappointed she has this mess around here but then its my job to clean it up…I feell like Shokarrella. MOL

Dad said,…. he didn’t know what mom had done to me but I looked weird. Not so dad!

We need both types. Someone has to eat these veggies and do the other chores. You and Kali have been nominated. Napping is her strong suit….nothing much happens when she naps. I hope yoy’re more productive. MOL

You have been travelling lots Nellie…tell your mom to stay home….you’ve had enough besides your grass needs mowing and you must get rid of the weeds. Do you have something called, “Horses Mane” or some peeps call it, “Horses Tail?” It is awful…it has elastiv roots and is made up of sections. So when mom grabs it….hundreds of little weeds pop off. There is one spot where we have lots and lots…looks like someone….not saying who….broke off the sections. Mom is going to try roundup if the Horses cwap is not too close to the plant roots.

She is a strange one in the kitchen…reminds me of the cartoon on the French chef. MOL Charlie, you should have seen the weeds mom and dad had to wade through and finally remove from the garden. I’m sure dad threw out some perennials that were weed infested but I’m just a wee kitty kat and won’t say a word to mom…hehe

LOVE LOVE LOVE the hanging baskets you and your Mom made! Your garden looks fantastic too…….we have one tomato that is about a week away from harvesting – lots of flowers though so we’re hoping for a good “crop” !!

Just a few days and your mom will have a tomato! I’m so happy for you….its going to be some time before anything is ready to harvest here. Although we do have a green pepper that is coming along nicely.
Mom was told that the way to tell fruit from veggies is by the seeds. If, a fruit has lots of seeds it is a fruit (squash) and if it has little or no seeds its a veggie(carrots, beets). Mom says she never knew this.

I really don’t know Easy. They are a novelty potato to us…somehow a blue potato doesn’t really seem to turn mom’s crank. Although maybe the colour will really tickle her fancy and she’ll want pink cucumbers or purple corn next. MOL

Thanks Dezi and Lexi. The small fingerling type of potatoes dad found at a craft sale, at one of the places he volunteers put on. I didn’t know those type of pots were called Russian Banana potatoes. Live and learn.

Hi Cathy, You know we tried tuna last year! We thought the stuff in the cans is pretty good so why not try…right? We did get a minnow poking his gills out……but that’s it! He never grew bigger and by the time we tasted him…dudette did he taste bad…..although we liked the smell coming from that end of the garden, This year we just decided to have the tuna in the can from mom. Tastes a lot better. Now, Kali and I talked about growing 1/4 of a cow in the greenhouse but mom has used all of the room and we couldn’t decide which 1/4 of the cow to grow. Maybe we’ll try it next year.

Yes, we are way later than California folk! Our growing season is about 4 months and then the temps fall below freezing again. So we go all out in the few months we do have to grow our favourites. We have green peppers bearing fruit on one of the gree pepper plants. These are transplants….it takes too long to grow them from seed here. Unless of course you have a very sunny location to grow them starting in February. I don’t have a sunny locale so we buy the bigger green pepper plants…same with tomatoes.

Enjoy your fresh vine ripened tomato….it will taste awesome. Mom’s mouth is watering….MOL

This is one thing mom still can handle…the garden…….it takes her a long time but she gets it dun. She seems at peace when she plays in dirt….Kali and I are always ready to help….well, I am. Kali doesn’t like to get her paws dirty! I don’t care….its more fun to get dirty and have fun….right Einey? That was buckets of fun yesterday talking with Bailey. Mom was not doing well yesterday but she tried. Thank you for all the pictures…we are very grateful. Today mom is drying some catnip….the house is like nip-aven! We had our walk so things are looking good.
I sure loved climbing the mast of the Nocturne with you and Timmy…..great memories Einey.

      Hi Crepes,
Your momFOD sounds like ours but you win, your momFOD is out there more than ours….at least over tomatoes. Does she can them? Mom doesn’t have as many this year…4 only. The year before last the tomatoes yielded 96 ripe tomatoes…MOL Not over a space of time but all at once. Mom and dad are still eating the canned tomatoes from that year.
