Welaxing Wednesday

Wednesday PurrsToday was a mellow day.  We all spent most of the day enjoying the new growth of Spring.

We got a little sapling lilac tree last year from our bald headed neighbour.  We now see the new growth starting.

The Alpine Willy Clematis is very early every year and is about to bloom.

Mom has been weeding the lily bed and we have been watching by the catnip.  Mom’s way to handle the catnip is to block off two of them…letting them grow.  One is opened for our use…and usually has fur all over it.  When this one gets down, mom picks the fur off and wraps chicken wire around it but opens one of the good ones.  This way there is catnip all summer long.

The next 2 weeks are planting weeks.  All the soil and added nutrients need to be rototilled in my veggie garden and the potato patch.  This is dad’s job.  Planting the potatoes and veggies are mom and my job.  The perennials need more bone meal this year too.  Lots to do yet.

Doesn’t my veggie patch look nekked.  Remember this picture in July.  I can work wonders with my green paw.

You must have great soil Nellie. We too have a fine crop of weeds. Mom was telling us that her mother-in-law used to serve lamb quarters….when in season…as a vegetable at Sunday dinner. You may not know but lamb’s quarters are a weed and actually they are good. Maybe that’s what we should do. I don’t think it would go over big though.

I can’t wait to see it all in full bloom. Our garden is going bonkers right now: 4 types of peppers, 4 types of onions, 4 types of tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, spinach, sugar snap peas, zucchini, and carrots. The green beans are all mine. There are 12 plants of em! Mmmmm! Mom and dad don’t like green beans but I eat them with every meal. *ear licks* Noodle

Wow. 4 types of peppers…we have 2 to plant. 4 different types of tomatoes…think we have 3. We are no good with onions…only green and leek. We put those in the greenhouse and they’re happy…the leeks, and peppers that is. Onions are a no go here. Mom always gets maggots in them…ewww…they’re gross. I know we have a couple of different types of beans to plant but I don’t know what else mom has hidden away.
We both should have an awesome veggie garden.

    Hugs,

What is already growing looks spectacular, especially your nip. We only have one nip plant, and it is itty bitty right now. Are you going to bring some of that nip to Scouts, Shoko? XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

You have a super smart mom! I like the way she removed the weed. We will do it your way too now. That’s much better than to crawl around on your knees or to waddle around stooped like a duck :o)

When mom gets down on the ground…that’s it…she doesn’t get up again till she’s finished. Getting up is not easy for her. Kali and I sit and watch her roll to get up…she finally makes it.

For sure…this way is good and you’re not in a hurry to get off your knees. I had to devise some way down after a knee replacement on my right knee, a shoulder replacement on the right and the final piece is a popped rheumatoid nodule on my left elbow….that won’t heal because of the strong medication I’m on. This was the best way. I’m content. The girls like me down at their level too.

I’m just sayin’ this is the better way to go or I wouldn’t get down and boogie with these limitations.
We have a debate here…maybe you can help Easy. Hubby says the best way to weed is hoe but he doesn’t remove the weeds and they grow again. I say down on the butt and get the roots and throw them away. He does say it would be better to throw the weeds out. Mom and I take the same stand. Dad is by himself as Kali doesn’t want to get involved. What do you say mt friend.

I say down on the butt and grab them with lock stock and barrel… :o) My dad has a super whitewasher: we need the weed, because the tortoise likes to eat some green things… Hell-mut is as small as a slice of toast… he isn’t an elephant lol

Hi Sammy, Everything is starting to look summery! I do like this time of year. Yep, if mom didn’t put chicken wire around it…there wouldn’t be any by now.

Alpine Willy is so early though….the only other flowers out now are primrose, iris and tulips. The primrose is finished.
The seeds should be going in soon…dad has to rototill first. Then its a Bacon buffet….MOL

MOL…..that’s funny…new growth on the neighbour. I think the new growth is pretty slow but this is its first year with us. Well, the nursery here has a new plant….a cross between a potato and a tomato..maybe we can call it Topo. Soon maybe they’ll have a pizza pie crossed with nip, we can grow. This would be cool.

I’m not into tomatoes either…they stink and not the pleasing stink either. Your right the strawberries would be great for a serious hockey game…I never thought of it…I must try it.

Your mom has never grown catnip? It’s easy…catnip is a herb and you’d have to do something pretty terrible for it not to grow. It grows like a weed. You can buy the seeds at grocery stores, hardware stores, nurseries…just about everywhere right now. No, not clothing shops. Catnip is a perennial and comes up every year…if its planted in the ground. You can grow it indoors too but we tend to get into it if its inside. Tell your mom to ask a saleslady if that store has any and if not where can she get it.
