You see that itty bitty Lilac tree, well let me tell you how we ended up acquiring it.
Mom has loved the mother Lilac Tree ever since we moved here. The blossoms are a deep purple….she has only seen one other like it in this city. She asked Dad if he would dig up a sapling and plant it at our place. Dad is not crazy over Lilac Trees so he hummed and hawed around. Finally saying that if mom asked permission from the owner and they agreed…..he would transplant it in our yard. I think he figured she wouldn’t have the nerve but.. Yipee! One hurdle down.
Mom and I hustled our butts over to the house where the beautiful Lilac lived the next day.
Oh my the grounds looked somewhat unkept but we were on a mission. We got to the house and were met by a bald man with tattoos all over his bare chest. He looked at mom and said, “Ya, whaddua want lady?” Mom put on her bestest innocent look and said, “I have been admiring your beautiful Lilac Tree for years now and wondered if you would be so kind as to let us have a sapling of it?” He seemed a little taken aback by the softness in her voice compared to his. “Well, if its just a sapling, sure lady.” Mom thanked him for being so generous and we left. He was scratching his head when we left. I think he had fleas but mom said no fleas, he was just not prepared for us. Mom said some hoomins are not used to others being polite to them and build a rough shell around themselves. I’ll bet that man remembers mom and me!
We came home and Mom told Dad it was a done deal and he could take the sapling. That’s how we ended up with the Itty Bitty Lilac Tree.
