About a month ago mom heard about the benefits of Probiotics for supplementing a cat’s diet from a friend of hers. These probiotics are in a box with 30 envelopes. Apparently her friend’s cat just loved the probiotic and tried to eat through the envelope to get the tasty additive. Well this was the cat’s meow as far as mom was concerned so off to the vet’s she went to stock up on some of these tasty treats! The vet told her to mix the probiotic with water and give us 3 ml twice a day. Kali was the first one to get the new treatment. Mom just put it in a bowl and Kali sniffed it, looked at mom and walked away. Ok, no problem, she doesn’t LOVE it. So mom put it in some wet food that Kali rarely gets but, hey, she ate it. Great! Then it was my turn. Well, let me tell you, the probiotic stunk! It was enough to make me gag. Mom put some in wet food, like with Kali. There was no way I was eating that garbage! I stalked away with my head held high. So she pulled out this hollow tube and filled it up with the dreaded liquid. I was plopped on the counter and this filled tube was forced into my mouth. A very unpleasant experience. Mom’s tube squirted liquid that hit the roof of my mouth and then landed on the counter and me. My claws were trying to clamor backwards and away from this farce. The spilt liquid seemed to upset mom….and about time too…I was fit to be tied! Really mom this is dreadful. She let go of me and I was gone in a shot. We didn’t see anymore probiotic that day. Mom said she had to cogitate on how to best give the liquid. The next morning I had dad let me out early…no liquid for me. MOL Kali was not as fortunate. Mom put the wet food down with the ghastly additive in it. Kali walked away with her head held high. Mom’s hopes of an easy solution went up in smoke. Kali then received the hollow tube treatment. It was easier with Kali cause she only has 4 teeth. That was our introduction to probiotics. Did the probiotic help? Cwap, that stuff is good! Kali’s problem with her bowels started getting way better, her fur and mine was as soft as goose down and Kali’s ears quit producing dirt. I only get the liquid once a day but Kali gets it twice a day. Mom discovered hypoallergenic treats that really taste awesome, so we each get 2 after our treatments. I still don’t like the treatments but I can see why mom does it. You can read about Kali and the benefits of probiotics in the next edition of Pets Advisor. The article is written by Tammy Banks.
